Glastonbury: our pick of the artists you might not realise are your new favourites

The joy of festivals is finding new music, but at Glastonbury there is so much to choose from you may not be able to decide what to see next.

So we are on hand to point you in the right direction…

Our list generally avoids the main stages… with a few notable exceptions… because the new nuggets tend to be found elsewhere.

So dive into our Spotify playlist and here’s who you’ll find:

VLURE

Scottish warriors from the highlands of city tower blocks who have mastered the art of industrial rock and will soon rule the world.

Viagra Boys

They’ve been around for a good few years but we’ve only just latched onto what they do. It’s in your face, it’s dark, it’s not afraid to challenge you. Like a bottle of Arrogant Bastard Californian IPA it may simply be too good for you.

The Lottery Winners

There’s something very reminiscent of The Strokes at times, but then there isn’t at others. It depends which band member is singing.

DEADLETTER

There’s not enough ‘genre with no name’ artists at Glastonbury for us this year. DEADLETTER go a long way to redressing the balance.

Benefits

Benefits shout a lot about politics. They shout very loud.

Kid Kapichi

Kid Kapichi sing a lot about politics. They do it very well.

Funke and The Two Tone baby

There’s nobody quite like Funke and The Two Tone Baby. It’s a one man electro-folk blues explosion.

Mik Artistik’s Ego Trip

Mik is a festival legend. Only Iggy Pop seems brave enough to give him much radio airplay… which is a shame. Last year we saw many of his 11 Glastonbury gigs. Every single one was different and worth it.

Sleaze

Proper DIY punk ethics and a tonne of raw talent that will probably never amount to more than a footnote in musical history, but ought to be something you experience at least once in your otherwise miserable life.

The Future Shape of Sound

The first of two twangy rock’n’roll entries in our list and this one is the darker of the two. Genuinely uplifting.

Panic Shack

These Welsh girlz have nailed their colours to a very tall mast and are waving a punky skull and crossbones at the music industry – ramming speed!

Scalping

This is not light listening music. This is epic sound and light live experience music.

Oh My God! It’s The Church

Join the congregation and let sexy Jesus into your soul. Just don’t let him into your tent. That would be a big mistake.

Gaz Brookfield

He’s a bigger man than you and I will ever be, and his type one diabetes has become a festival anthem.

Coach Party

Here’s one of those acts everyone is telling us will be big but we’ve not seen enough of to decide for ourselves… so we’ll use Glastonbury to be the judge.

Family Jools

f the current weather holds then Family Jools will create the perfect soundtrack to a blissed out heatwave!

Sister Suzie

More rock’n’roll from Newcastle and Hastings’ favourite songstress. Suzie is playing her second year of Glastonbury residencies and every set is a joyful experience.

Enjoyable Listens

The Enjoyable Listens sound is big yet understated. However the live set is even bigger and will blow you away with energy and swagger.

Thrill Collins

Fun. Fun. Fun. Music is a serious business, but doesn’t need to take itself too seriously…

Town of Cats

There’s something psychedelically chaotic about Town of Cats. And we love that.

Yusuf

From Town of Cats to the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens. These are songs that echo down the years and his position in the legends slot is long overdue.

Sparks

Once upon a time Sparks came across as something of a novelty act. But as the years have gone by the world has come to realise the spark in Sparks is a true spark of genius.

The Hu

And last (but far from least) it’s The Hu. Mongolian Metal anyone? We’ve been waiting ages to see these guys play live, and Glastonbury is the perfect setting.
