I remember going to Roxy Nightclub to see LL perform his 1st album. Waited forever to get in. You could feel the static. It wasn't good. After I got searched, I watched this dude who was behind me saying that no one was searching him. The head bouncer was this ex merc. He was huge. He tells him that if he doesn't want to get searched then he has to leave or else he has to deal with another bouncer. Dude said bring it. The other bouncer happened to be Taimac who did the movie " The Last Dragon". Dude started talking shit to Taimac. I shook my head cause I knew Taimac. He's a true Martial Artist. Taimac did a flying kick that knocked Dude out cold. It was crazy. We didn't check our sheepskins in cause the static was horrible. Everyone was standing posted up just waiting for something to jump off. Then LL comes on stage. He didn't get to do one song cause his boys from Farmers started brawling with another crew. Shots rang out and we broke out. That was the closest I came to watching LL perform.
You will NEVER EVER write the story of hip hop, rap, breakdancing, nor pop culture WITHOUT MENTIONING LL COOL J. Dude is in that Run DMC, Kurtis Blow, Grand Master Flash type of category, he doesn't belong on a list. He's a damn icon.
