FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS: Hints and Tips: Shaw Komori on Trumpet

Festivals and gigs. A listings calendar, plus previews, news, reviews, and photos

Introducing our brand new “Hints and Tips” series!
Today’s “hints and tips”, presented to you by CTBBJF, features Shaw Komori.

Japanese-born trumpeter, Shaw Komori, has lived in Cape Town for most of his life and is currently majoring in Jazz Studies at UCT. His roots are steeped in classical music, but his emergence as a jazz trumpeter has taken him onto the bandstand with many artists spanning various genres both in Cape Town and in the US.

Shaw has been playing big band music ever since he first picked up the trumpet. While having played for many big artists under a variety of directors around Cape Town, he has also been a participant of the Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival for over 10 years. He currently plays and is manager of the UCT Big Band under the direction of Amanda Tiffin. He is also the administrative assistant and a member of the Mike Campbell Big Band.

The CTBBJF is renowned as one of South Africa’s premier showcases of musical youthful talent. Unfortunately, this year our festival was cancelled due to Covid-19, but on a happier note, we have moved our festival online and have many musical treats in store for you.
A huge thank you to all of our loyal sponsors, and a special thanks to The SAMRO Foundation.
