Today’s “hints and tips”, presented to you by CTBBJF, features Kelly Bell on trombone!
Kelly Bell is a freelance performing artist based in Cape Town. She studied Jazz Performance at UCT and graduated in 2005 with a Bmus Honours in Pedagogy Jazz Studies. In 2002 and 2003 she was selected for the National Youth Big Band. Kelly tours and performs nationally and internationally with many artists such as Israel and New Breed, Sibongile Khumalo, Jazmyne with Danish bassist Ida Gormsen, and Tony Cedras. She has recorded on award-winning albums which have won a Grammy award and 2 Dove awards. Her main focus is The Kelly Bell Band which has been headlining at numerous festivals. She currently teaches jazz studies and conducts many youth artists in Cape Town. She was the 2017 conductor of the Standard Bank National School’s Big Band. Kelly co-founded The Lady Day Big Band with Lana Crowster and Amanda Tiffin in 2018. She has been a member of the CTBBJF Alumni Big Band since it’s inception.
The CTBBJF is renowned as one of South Africa’s premier showcases of musical youthful talent. Unfortunately, this year our festival was cancelled due to Covid-19, but on a happier note, we have moved our festival online and have many musical treats in store for you.A huge thank you to all of our loyal sponsors, and a special thanks to The SAMRO Foundation.
