Romanian tenor Bogdan Mihai trained with baritone Nicolae Constantinescu, soprano Mariana Nicolesco, then in Italy with soprano Mirella Freni. Made his debut in 2008 at Bucharest National Opera as Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and quickly embarked on an international career as a belcanto specialist.

Almaviva is his parade role which he debuted at Semperoper Dresden, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Liceu of Barcelona, Opéra de Montréal, Oviedo Opera, Théatre du Chatelet in Paris, Grand Théatre de Genéve (broadcasted worldwide on Mezzo TV and Arte TV), Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and for the inauguration of the Dubai Opera House.

A recognized Rossinian thanks to spectacular coloratura and high notes, he has sung Ramiro /Cenerentola in Stuttgart, Opéra National du Rhin; Armida in Garsington, Adelberto / Adelaide di Borgogna at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, the title role of Aureliano in Palmira at Martina Franca
Festival (the former two productions documented on DVD), Dorvil / La Scala di Seta at Concertgebouw Amsterdam and at Théatre des Champs-Elysées, Cavalier Belfiore / II Viaggio a Reims at the Wildbad Rossini Festival, Elisero / Mosé in Egitto with Ruggero Raimondi in
Milano and at the Winland Festival in Beijing with Roberto Scandiuzzi.

Other roles that he has been closely associated with are: Ernesto / Don Pasquale which he debuted at Zurich Opera with Ruggiero Raimondi and Nello Santi, at the Royal Opera House of Muskat in Oman (on DVD), at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, at Cuvilliestheater in Munich and at Nouvel Opéra de Fribourg and Nemorino / L’Elisir d’amore at Mikhailovsky Theatre, St. Petersburg and Elvino / La Sonnambula at Teatro Verdi in Trieste.

He also made his debut at the Salzburg Festival as Everardo in Zingarelli’s Giulietta e Romeo (wrold premiere) under the guidance of Cecilia Bartoli.

Very active in concert, Bogdan has sung also in London in the Rosenblatt Recital series, at Suntory Hall in Tokyo with Angela Gheorghiu and with Berliner Philharmoniker and Simon Rattle at Baden-Baden Festival.

Recent highlights in 2022-2023: he made his debut as Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Bucharest National Opera and returned with his title role Almaviva in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia.
