FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS: Bob Dylan – Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright – Fuji Rock Festival 2018 – Audio

Festivals and gigs. A listings calendar, plus previews, news, reviews, and photos

July 29 2018
Naeba Ski Resort, Yuzawa, Japan

This is the first version from 2018 labeled as “honky-tonk” version on Boblinks (at least to my knowledge).
The previous version was in Seoul two days ago where Bob played guitar. I posted it recently.
It’s nice to see this song transition into a different arrangement as this Asia/Oceania 2018 Tour was unwinding.
Carefully, step by step, this song got into that tender melancholic arrangement that was played until last year (2019) and was one of the highlights in Bob’s recent years without a doubt.
What I will try to do now is, upload by upload, show you in the upcoming period, how this song transitioned carefully into that sweet arrangement. Of course, every arrangement of this song is sweet, but it’s nice to see a genius at work and how he, step by step gets one song that already worked well to work in another arrangement just like that.
Of course, I will be uploading a lot of different performances as well, but as we’re preparing for the 2020 shows from April 1, I want to keep you guys up-to-date as much as possible with the 2018 and 2019 (above all other years) performances, that showcase Bob’s genius very well.
Specifically, my main focus will be this song, When I Paint My Masterpiece and Gotta Serve Somebody. While the first two were played on every show, Gotta Serve Somebody didn’t have its second attempt until Singapore, August 6 (first since Seoul, July 27). I already posted that performance of Serve Somebody.
So there will be no more Serve Somebody until we come to Singapore performances of Don’t Think Twice and When I Paint My Masterpiece. After that, you will see the evolution of all three during the Asia/Oceania Tour. Once we finish that, I’m thinking of showing you how Gotta Serve Somebody got another arrangement on the American leg that year. Also, maybe another song, like Watchtower on that leg. We’ll see.

So hopefully, you won’t be bored with these ones.
I’ll try to post them every day along with some other uploads I have in mind.

Very nice and also your notes of how this and other songs have transitioned and are still transitioning! As I’ve always said Bob’s songs are organic! Songs that are his life’s traveling companions. He is forever finding new ways for their expression; new arrangements, revisions both planned and spontaneous! You mr tambourine, follow along the same vein in how you approach catalog and share Bob’s music! Thank you for all that you do to present Bob in all his life’s journey! You are so respectful of his art and I dare say heart!
