2017 marked the 75th Anniversary of the publications, “Cross Creek” and “Cross Creek Cookery” by the late Pulitzer-Prize-winning author, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. Throughout 2017 the MKR Friends of the Farm, in collaboration with the staff of the MKR Historic State Park, the Alachua County Division of Cultural Affairs and Visit Gainesville/Alachua County, held a variety of events to commemorate the anniversary. Activities included not only food and library presentations but a writer’s event, a fish fry, an art competition and exhibition, a musical gathering, a cemetery tour and a “Pound Party” play just to name a few.
The music in this video comes from recordings by Paul Garfinkel (The Creek), Mark Smith, and recordings from campground jams at the Florida Folk Festival by Donna Green-Townsend.
The video was produced by Donna Green-Townsend with Dgtmultimedia Productions. A majority of the photos were donated to the effort by a variety of folks: Tish Kilpatrick, Murray Laurie, Carrie Todd, Russell Etling, Karen Ahlers, Amanda Ausley, Rick Mulligan, Sheila Holloway, Tom Teets, Elaine Spencer, Valerie Rivers, Anne Pierce, Murray Laurie and Barbara Wingo.
