A bit about Truck Festival…
It’s our first time at Truck – which has been a glaring hole in our festival coverage over the last few years.
The first thing that grabs us is that it is a ‘sweet-spot’ capacity event… enough people so that main stage headliners are heaving at the seams, but not so big that smaller acts get lost.
And as for who it is for…well it’s a noticeably younger crowd than many other festivals we regularly attend, and the nature of the bands reflects this, with many names that would be unheard of to anyone over 30 years old.
But don’t let this fool you into thinking it’s a rowdy place full of teenagers out of control… there’s a distinct maturity evident in the crowds, despite the lack of years.
And what we love about these sorts of line-up is that there is a very good chance that you can justly claim to have found some of tomorrow’s big stadium acts before they were (very) famous.
Any downsides?
Well, we heard a few grumbles about food prices and portions – but that’s an issue pretty much everywhere…a simple reflection of how inflation is chipping away at every corner of our lives.
The drinks selection was also maybe a little disappointing, despite a couple of decent brews from the Signature team. It may be a reflection of younger people’s drinking habits, but a good draught cider wouldn’t have gone amiss (almost £6 for a frequently warm can of Brothers was a bit steep).
All that said, the relatively modest size of the site means that even though you can’t bring drinks into the arena you can quite easily slip back to your tent a few times a day if you have brought your own supplies and found some inventive way of keeping them cool!
