Line-up and details

Festival of Steam is a proper throwback day out: steam locomotives in full voice, heritage carriages, and stations that feel like living film sets. There’s that unmistakable mix of hot tea, coal-smoke nostalgia, and camera shutters, plus plenty of chances to get up close to the engines and soak up the atmosphere.

Expect frequent services and lots of opportunities to hop on and off to explore stops along the line. It’s built for railway fans, families, and anyone who likes their weekends with a bit of history and spectacle baked in. If you’re bringing kids, it’s a great “first big adventure” kind of event; if you’re bringing grown-ups, it’s a scenic excuse for a slow-paced day that still feels special.

Plan for a relaxed rhythm: ride, explore, refuel, repeat.Bring a warm layer, arrive early if you want the best photos, and keep an eye out for any special exhibits, demonstrations or themed add-ons that might be running alongside the services.

Dates, timetables and tickets are on the organiser’s page: Official website.
