With just over five months until End of the Road 2023, we’re delighted to reveal another haul of artists to be added to this year’s lineup. Joining King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Angel Olsen, Ezra Furman, Future Islands, Arooj Aftab, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Wilco in the gardens will be Grammy-nominated Fatoumata Diawara, experimentalists and long-time collaborators Panda Bear & Sonic Boom, Irish post-punkers The Murder Capital raw, and hook-ridden indie pop cult artist SAMIA, groove-inducing duo Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul, and many more. It’s ostensibly not remotely a vintage year – this announcement has done little to rectify the rather arch and hipster feel overall – maybe it’s my middle aged narrowing tastes, and a harking for some comforting, smile inducing stalwarts, but the top part of the bill is pretty meh to these eyes. Get the feeling Woods will be very disappointing this year, decided lack of stardust, but as always there’s some amazing new talent, spanning all genres, so there will be some wonderful sets – think the garden (hopefully Angel & Ezra will headline?) tipi & talking heads stages will be the main places to be in my little corner of the world – which is lovely in itself. Should be a blast despite reservations.
