On the final day of the 2017 Festival, trumpet virtuoso, Ryan Quigley’s band recreated the musical fireworks of the early days of bebop in Gillespie’s centenary year. High energy trumpet swagger and serpentine alto sax brilliance were Diz and Bird’s trademarks -and always with artists packed with great players. Had the pleasure of meeting Ryan Quigley years ago at Eighty Queen Street Edinburgh (before the late Bill Kyle set up the Jazz Bar in Chambers Street) thoroughly nice bloke…great memories of that evening… hope I’ll get the chance to see him again…
