From racing cars to running clubs and being in the top 20, Chris Barber is 100% a British jazz icon.
In the 50s, he was the first to bring to the UK some of the great American blues artists such as Big Bill Broonzy, Muddy Waters, Sonny Terry, Brownie Mc Ghee, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, all had a vast influence on the music scene and inspired many now legendary British performers, including Eric Clapton, John Mayall and The Rolling Stones. He helped the careers of numerous musicians, including blues singer Ottilie Patterson, and his guitarist and singer Lonnie Donegan, with whom he began the skiffle movement.
