David”s guitar playing was absolutely superb.

Their performance was the highlight of the weekend for me.

    So slick, so engaging, perfect.
    I wished he’d played…(follows list of about 400 songs…)

Jesus, Simon & Garfunkel have really let themselves go.

Musically great, but felt Al was a little “ cold “. No encore and as a self professed wordsmith, why does he not sign his cd’s for the faithful fans ( me included ) who braved the pouring rain just to see him perform. ☹️

I agree with a few of these comments. The guitarist (David?) was brilliant. Al Stewart was also an inspired choice. However, he was a bit disdainful. (I am so resisting the urge to mention “the year of the twat). He could have been a bit more sincere in his concern about those who had got soaked just to hear him. Also, why no signings? This is not Beryl by the way. Just an equally soggy bag carrier who, a month earlier, was enjoying his former flat-mate’s (Paul Simon,s) farewell concert, and paying for it listening to AS. So much wanted to like him but somehow felt short-changed.

Al Stewart made the rain go away – what a man! Thanks x

I guess he could not do a signing because he was to appear on stage later with Fairport.

A few harsh comments – I thought he was rather engaging and funny in a very understated way.
Mind you I thought it would be good to hear Clifton in the rain while soaked to the skin lol

I loved this set. Didn’t find him cold at all! I think he’s just got a very dry sense of humour. Definitely worth sitting in the rain for.

    Swillin’ Billy Flynn

we went to Cropredy specifically to see Al and weren’t disappointed in spite of the weather.

Not there this year but saw A S and D M couple of years back at Crop and thought as much as many above…( and that D M is SOME guitarist..!)

I’ve sung with Al Stewart at Staines Folk Club circa 1974

Best performance of the festival for me, technically perfect and not a note missed by either of them. Give me music over personality any day, endured the rain but worth it.

    Real guitars, fine craft

  18. Anonymous says:

Brilliant set, despite being wet through, it was the best performance of the festival ! 😀

Highlight of the festival . Worth the wait in the rain.
Also Merry Hell at the Brasenose were excellent. Main stage next year?
