As part of Convergence Sessions 2018, we’ll be showcasing the experimental sounds of Iranian multi-instrumentalist composer, record producer, film director and futurist Ash Koosha, alongisde emerging London electronic duos Wyles & Simpson and GIRLHOOD.

Ash Koosha (Ninja Tune, Olde English Spelling Bee) revcently announced the upcoming launch of his record label REALMS + new album AKTUAL. Born in Iran and currently based in London, Ash makes the kind of “mind-bending electronic music” (Pitchfork), which has loudly resonated globally in the last few years. He performed his audio-visual sets around the world at likes of Form, MoMA PS1, ReWire, TEDX, Boiler Room (VR), Dommune and ICA LONDON to name a few. Since his last release Ash has collaborated on production and performances with artists such as Polaris Award winner and Bjork collaborator Tanya Tagaq.

The forthcoming release of his new album ‘AKTUAL’ is announced by REALMS. Koosha has already lived and done more than most of his kind, not least playing the lead role of Iranian Cannes award winning ‘No One Knows About Persian Cats, creating the world’s first VR album/performance concept and release of critically acclaimed ‘GUUD’ and ‘I AKA I’ on Ninja Tune. More important to him are his current activities, from Virtual Reality performances, future of humanity studies, sonic experiments and new LP ‘AKTUAL’ which will be showcased at Convergence 2018.

Wyles & Simpson

Electronic duo Wyles & Simpson explore visceral themes such as impermanence and metamorphosis in captivating yet understated tracks. In a very short space of time the duo have managed to draw much praise: The Fader hailed their debut single Light & Dark as “an immediate and deeply satisfying listen”; the Independent described their live set as “impressively polished”; and Dots and Dashes praised their “often beautiful melodies of frequently immense intensity…as wholly holistic a show as you’ll likely see.”

Girlhood

Girlhood are Christian Pinchbeck and Tessa Cavanna, that began when their separate musical projects came to an end, with the pair drawing inspiration from the shared sounds on which they grew up. Taking cues from Fugees, late 80s hip hop and The Avalanches and 90s neo-soul, the pair use Christian’s narrowboat – still docked on a London canal – to write, record and produce their music, bringing a distinctly British setting to their worldly and diverse range of influences. They released their debut EP ‘Girlhood Vol. 1’ at the end of 2017 to huge acclaim, and are currently working on new music for 2018.
