This initial announcement promises a rich tapestry of musical experiences, setting the stage for a memorable celebration of jazz in all its forms.
A Diverse Lineup Takes Shape:
The first wave of artists reveals the festival’s commitment to showcasing both established stars and groundbreaking talent. Making his Cheltenham Jazz Festival debut is the acclaimed British singer-songwriter David Gray. This performance promises to be a highlight for fans of his distinctive blend of folk, rock, and electronic influences.
Returning to the festival after a sold-out performance at Cheltenham Town Hall in 2022 is the highly regarded saxophonist and composer Nubya Garcia. Described by The Guardian as “one of the top-line names to emerge from the past decade’s explosion of young London jazz talent,” Garcia has garnered widespread acclaim for her dynamic performances and innovative approach to jazz. Following the release of her widely acclaimed studio album Odyssey, her return to Cheltenham is eagerly anticipated by jazz enthusiasts.
Adding a touch of Grammy-winning glamour to the lineup is Corinne Bailey Rae. The multi-talented singer will deliver a special performance featuring her hits and classic big band material, accompanied by the esteemed Ronnie Scott’s Orchestra. This exclusive collaboration promises to be a unique and unforgettable experience, blending Rae’s soulful vocals with the rich sounds of a world-class big band.
A true icon of British music, Jools Holland will also grace the Cheltenham stage. With a remarkable 50-year career that includes chart-topping albums, collaborations with music legends, and an OBE for his contributions to the British music industry, Holland’s performance is sure to be a highlight. He will be joined by former Squeeze band member Gilson Lavis, a frequent collaborator who also features in Holland’s popular annual Hootenanny celebrations.
Completing this initial announcement is the internationally acclaimed Malian duo Amadou & Mariam. Their unique musical style blends traditional Malian sounds with diverse influences ranging from brass-heavy funk and reggae to Delta blues and Afro-Cuban jazz. Their headline set in the festival’s 2000-capacity Big Top promises to be a vibrant and energetic celebration of global music.
