Alabaster de Plume at End of the Road 2024

Festivals and gigs. A listings calendar, plus previews, news, reviews, and photos

Okay, so Albaster de Plume… they’re like this really unique jazz band, but not in the way you’d expect. It’s like, free jazz meets folk meets… I don’t know, something really weird and beautiful.

Their music is all about space and atmosphere. They use a lot of instruments, like saxophones and flutes, and also stuff like cello and even a hurdy-gurdy! It’s all very improvisational, so every show is different. Sometimes it’s really intense and energetic, and other times it’s super mellow and hypnotic.

People seem to either really love them or be completely baffled by them. Some say they’re groundbreaking and innovative, while others find them a bit too experimental or even boring. But I think that’s kind of the point, you know? They’re not trying to please everyone.

If you’re open to something a bit different and you like jazz, folk, and maybe even a touch of psychedelia, then you should definitely give them a listen. You might just be surprised at how much you enjoy it.
