Turn the volume up, way up, and view in 1080HD! Join us as the Madrigals choir from Santa Clarita’s Canyon High School performs and competes at the annual A Cappella Scholarship Festival, directed by Mary Purdy, May 13, 2017. This is an annual event sponsored by the John Hench Foundation and the Verdugo Hills Chorus, and is held in the wonderful auditorium of Glendale High School (of course, in Glendale, CA). This video highlights the morning warmup, arrival, performance, special appearance by “The Filharmonic,” lunch, the “Parade of Directors,” the award presentation, and the dénouement of arriving back at the school. Note: this is Mary Purdy’s final appearance at the A Cappella Festival due to her retirement after 39 years of teaching, 19 of which were at Canyon High School.

Pieces performed are:
2:25 “Kasar Mie La Gaji” (The earth is tired) by Alberto Grau (b. 1937)
8:02 “Daniel, Daniel, Servant of the Lord,” spiritual arranged by Undine Moore
11:00 clip of the a cappella vocal quinet “The Filharmonic” performing
