Glasgow, G12 8QX GB

Far removed from conventional perceptions of ‘pure-drop’ authenticity, both of tonight’s acts rekindle folk music’s primal rawness, grit and anti-establishment spirit. The darkly compelling, wholly distinctive sound of Dublin quartet Lankum (formerly Lynched) draws together music-hall songs, shanties and street ballads with original material and gutsy traditional tunes. “Beatnik, audacious and utterly soulful. . . reverent to the core about their heritage” (Guardian) London’s Stick in the Wheel, centred on Nicola Kearey’s searing vocals, channel the fierce resilience of their…

The Deslondes are a five-piece band from New Orleans. In the time between the release of their self-titled debut and sophomore album, Hurry Home, The Deslondes have toured the world and drawn critical acclaim for their studied and inventive take on New Orleans country and R&B. Long combining elements of early Stax, Sun, and Atlantic Records with the influence of a more raw, stripped-down sound gleaned off field recordings from Alan Lomax and the Mississippi Records catalog, the band have…

Ben Schneider conjured Lord Huron from the depths of Lake Huron during a trip to his family home in northern Michigan in 2010. Ancient memories, smoke over the moon and nights full of perilous laughter all bolstered the brew from which Lord Huron emerged. Ben brought Lord Huron back with him to Los Angeles, where strange young things are known to flourish, unhindered. As the songs grew, so did the need for a band to play them. Answering the call…

“There’s a tender heart beating for you…” Cynicism comes easy, but having a soft heart takes real guts. Sam Outlaw’s new album Tenderheart dares to tread gently and look inward, with unapologetic sentiment and un-ironic nods to country music’s greatest neon rainbow chasers. “Tenderheart is an assured step forward for this rising country star. Four stars” – Rolling Stone “His debut LP is a polished and cosmopolitan west coast take on traditional country music (he’s called it “SoCal country”) with…
