One of my fav things I've ever done with #DavidBowie Here he's doing #NiteFligths live on #JayLeno We both used to be terrified of flying. Now it's when I most comfortable. *tears*David Bowie in 1993 on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (5/10/1993) ... See MoreSee Less
Nile, I just interviewed Thomas Dolby a few months ago and he was telling the story of Live Aid. He performed with Bowie on that show. The 2 of them flew in a helicopter over Queen performing and Bowie had his sweatshirt over his head. Dolby said “look, it’s Freddie” and Bowie didn’t budge! Great story! Great interview!
Now I need YOU on my show!!! 🙂
How did you deal with your fear of flying?
Loved this, Nile! David was so soulful and funk just oozed from him. I've never seen a blue-eyed (with one brown eye) so genuine and so comfortable being around Black people. Those people are very rare, and, literally do not exist. He didn't need to be surrounded by minorities to make it because he already was there on his own. However, you could tell how comfortable he was and in his element. He wasn't a phoney, a hanger on, or looking for a gimmick (like Justin Timberlake, sorry!). His songs and style were unique. Someone like Bowie only comes around once in a lifetime. Thank you for sharing this!
Nite Flights is definitely one of the best moments from that great, yet overlooked Bowie record. Duran’s Notorious and Bowie’s BTWN are kindred spirit albums in my book. They definitely share something. Skin Trade is my favorite moment on Notorious for its brass arrangements and that amazing trumpet solo, and the first time I heard BTWN I immediately wondered if Bowie wanted you to reproduce something he’d heard on Notorious, just like Duran probably wanted you to reproduce something they’d loved about Let’s Dance.
Those 3 albums are masterpieces in their genre.
And oh my God the brass on all 3 of them 👌🏻
Was a great version & performance. I know Let's Dance was the bigger hit but BTWN is the more satisfying work for me as a lifelong fan.
David looks so handsome and I love how he talks about Iman <3 Spotted Sterling Campbell on drums and wow, Al B. Sure! "Jump They Say" is my favorite track on this album 🙂
Awesome video! Still can‘t believe he is no longer around. I miss David. And Chris. Two of my all-time favorite singers for about 30 years. I’m sure they were very dear friends to you.
Still love and miss him. Couldn't believe how devastated I was when he died. Felt as though a big chunk of my childhood had been rubbed out 😢❤😢
BTWN is a very underrated album. One of my favourite Bowie outings. You should be very proud of it Sir Nile of Rogers 😃
Great performance. Love the Walker Bros song but this cover is fantastic too. Hope youre keeping well.
Love hearing you talk about your times with David Bowie , sounds like you both got along great ? You must miss him ❤️
Chris thanks for posting this video. Love Bowie so much. His voice was just mesmerizing.
Nile, I'd love to hear you interviewed by Howard Stern.
Such a great sound and period. World class, Timelss music.
I love this album--you both shine on it
Love love love this....
That is one of my favorite songs - he was such a Scott Walker fan, one of my favorites off that album.
Love your stories Nile. As I get older my fear of flying is getting worse. And I fly for free!!!
Nile, I absolutely ADORE the BTWN album - and Nite Flights is a particular favourite. Great stuff! 👏😍
He looked so bloody amazing during this era... cool, stylish, just an absolute dude.
Just another vanity post of Nile to lean, once again on a no-connect story that he makes up just to use Bowie Name for his own publicity! No one cares if he can’t sleep on planes!
