Watchet Music Festival 2019
Behind the Scenes
Simon Brown – Volunteer Electrics Team
Simon became involved in Watchet Music Festival as he is a part of the town and part of the community. Originally Simon started off working as part of the fencing team and then progressed to assisting with any help needed on the site. Simon now makes up art of the electrical team on the festival build. He covers the site from the Monday before the festival start the weekend of the festival, and the closing down of the festival site.
Q. What do you experience working on the site ?
A. Working on the festival site is great fun. I have met a few well know people Andy Kershaw was at the festival one year, what a great guy so very genuine. I shared a few beers with him and showed him around Watchet. There is another story of the artist who brought a dog along, I was personal chauffeur! That is another tale for another time…..
Q. What are your musical influences?
A. Queen are great, David Bowie and his music have influenced me for many years, such a diverse person with changing personas.
Q. Who are you hoping to see from this years line up?
A. The Bar Steward Sons of Val Doonican, they are a great bunch of lads and Sophie Ellis Bextor. I will try and see some artists over the weekend when I can. Work on the festival site is 24/7 and ongoing.
It is a privilege to be part of such a big festival family and to work with Mark and Jackie.
The payback is the friendships you make, the people you see, the chance to volunteer, and to be part of something that is so community orientated.
