Watchet Music Festival 2019
Behind the Scenes
Festival Writers …..Beth Gallagher and Siobhan Gallagher
I met with Beth and Siobhan Gallagher one Monday evening to find out about their work as volunteers for Watchet Music Festival.
Beth and Siobhan have worked with the Festival volunteer team over the years, sorting and sizing tee shirts, preparing lanyards, assisting in the back stage area with cleaning and distributing the festival guide.
For the last few years both have worked with Festival Directors Jackie and Mark Bale to to put together the festival guide. Work started in November 18 with researching the artists and artists that will be playing at the 2019 festival. They also research local places of interest for festival goers such as the Marina, Holy Well, (I didn't know about that place) West Somerset Railway and the great local cafes, pubs and shops in the town. The Busk Stop also known as Pebbles Bar also holds live music events over the festival weekend.
All graphics reviews and details relating to the festival has to be ready for submission to the West Somerset Free Press six weeks before the festival. Working with Gareth Purcell from the Free Press they design and layout the festival guide which ties in with the Sunday festival theme. This is then reviewed, approved and ready to go to print. Additional details around local charities such as Elliot's Touch and Stand Against Speed 4 Bethany are also in the guide. Siobhan has been a DJ in previous years for Elliot's Touch Silent Disco.
I asked Beth and Siobhan what they felt they gained from being part of the festival team . “We get the experience of a large festival in our local area and have an chance to discover new music. We have had the chance to meet some artists in previous years, it is also a great thing to be able to support the festival. The festival brings people together, and we often see people at the festival that we would not regularly. The festival is a very local event that is very ethical and affordable. There is also a great community contribution for this event.”
Quote: We are here for a good time – Not a long time.
