Watchet Music Festival Live 2019
Behind the Scenes at Watchet Music Festival
James is a regular volunteer at Watchet Music Festival and has been supporting this event since it moved to the new site at Parsonage Farm over ten years ago. I called in to see James after work one evening and have a chat with him about his volunteering.
James has live in Watchet for the last 15 years and his parents run the Bell Inn in Watchet (always are a warm welcome at the Inn). James got to know Jackie and Mark Bale Festival Directors and offered his services to help out with the electric on the festival site after he had completed his apprenticeship as an electrician.
James said the festival has evolved over the years. He enjoys working on site with a team made up of Dan and Mark Mossman and Paul Raymond and Bob Hornby.
I asked James what he most enjoyed in general about the festival and his volunteer work.
“ The festival has a great feeling, is good to see and know so many people at the festival, the atmosphere is very friendly, and although it has grown in size it still retain its local connection with the community. I also enjoy the music and am looking forward to seeing Embrace and the Lightening Seeds this year . The Ten Pound Suit Band played on the Udder Stage last year and they were great. I enjoy bringing something into the community and being involved. I like to volunteer and help out. The most important thing to me is community spirit, everyone pulling together and seeing something that is self generating work. Also the support the festival gives to local charities particularly Elliott's Touch".
"There are challenges , this can be the weather if its windy, and each year the dynamics of what is required change. The festival is a testament to Jackie and Mark and I am more than willing to volunteer to keep this great event Watchet Music Festival going “.
