ANNOUNCEMENT!! Great news everyone! The wonderful CHRIS LINTOTT has confirmed he is able to reschedule for 2021 ... we're very excited!
Chris will confirm which talk he will give later in the year, as the talk scheduled for 2020 surrounding his new book will not be so new by this time next year! Watch this space!

Chris Lintott is a professor of astrophysics at the University of Oxford, where he is also a research fellow at New College, working on topics from galaxy evolution, transient detection and machine learning. As Principal Investigator of the Zooniverse, he leads a team who run the world’s most successful citizen science projects, allowing more than a million people to discover planets, transcribe ancient papyri or explore the Serengeti. A passionate advocate of the public understanding of science, he is best known as co-presenter of the BBC’s long running Sky at Night program. His book, ‘The Crowd and the Cosmos’, is now available from Oxford University Press.

Just want to say a huge thank you to you all for being so understanding of Solarsphere having to be cancelled for 2020.

We're so very lucky that we have your support and we are truly grateful and blessed because of this. You are wonderful!

There are so many suffering right now and for so many reasons. Please just keep safe, be kind, and know how sorry we are. We are already planning 2021 and we hope to see all of you there.

Thank you also to the venue owners and their staff, the crew, the practical astronomy team, the volunteers/marshals ... you have all become friends and a big part of our lives. We couldn't do this without any of you, so thank you for helping us make Solarsphere what it is. We love you all! 🙂

ANNOUNCEMENT!!

...and the first person to confirm for 2021 is the very popular and much loved WILL GATER! Thank you Will for being able to return!!! 🙂

Will is going to present his wonderful talk about taking your first steps in nightscape astrophotography. Please read below:

Taking your first steps in nightscape astrophotography

Nightscape imaging is an area of wide-field astrophotography that focuses on shooting celestial targets over landscapes and earthly scenes. Because this technique requires only, relatively, basic camera equipment it can be a great way to start out in imaging the night sky. In this talk, Will will explore the science and art of capturing nightscapes, from what kit you’ll need to how to create the sharpest, most eye-catching, shots. He’ll examine the pitfalls to avoid and highlight the diverse array of astronomical subjects there are for nightscape photography – something that makes this style of imaging enticing for both beginners and experts alike.

ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
We are thrilled to confirm dates for 2021..

Friday August 13th - Monday August 16th.

Monday is packing down day. We always include Monday's date so people know they can stay on the Sunday night too!

So.... diarise the date, and follow the instructions that Ticketline should be sending you (if they haven't already) if you wish to transfer tickets or indeed request a refund.

For those who have requested to purchase from us directly, please email me to let me know what you would like to do. I will get back to you as soon as I can (I'm currently back working on the wards as well as maintaining my research job, so it's quite a busy time at present outside of the festival debacle ...but I WILL get back to you)!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support and understanding. We never wanted to let anyone down by cancelling, we're truly sorry, but we have to do what's right for everyone's safety.

Much love.
