Woodstock 50 has been cancelled. Earlier today officials with Dentsu Aegis Network, which is funding the festival, released the following statement.

“It’s a dream for agencies to work with iconic brands and to be associated with meaningful movements. We have a strong history of producing experiences that bring people together around common interests and causes which is why we chose to be a part of the Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival.  But despite our tremendous investment of time, effort and commitment, we don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name while also ensuring the health and safety of the artists, partners and attendees.”

The statement goes on, “As a result and after careful consideration, Dentsu Aegis Network’s Amplifi Live, a partner of Woodstock 50, has decided to cancel the festival.  As difficult as it is, we believe this is the most prudent decision for all parties involved.”

Billboard will update this post when more details becomes available.

It’s a shame people support these giant investment corporations.
All the corporate PR/ marketing language is just obnoxious.
    “The woodstock brand”.

These are just large scale investment groups feeding off the hard work and creativity of our community and the artists.

    SUPPORT SMALL AND INDEPENDENT FESTIVALS

  3. WAIT A MINNIT!!! This sh*t show is still developing. Hahaha

So they booked the lineup with no infastructure. Sounds about right for some quick gain captalism.

  5. > More than $30 million has already been spent on the festival lineup, a source with knowledge of the proposal tells Billboard and most artists have already been paid by Amplify Live

What happens now? Are they just out 30 million, or will they bring the artists to other events?

  6. sgr0gan says:

I say we go get our own permit over at Watkins Glen and start our own festival with blackjack and hookers! That’ll show ’em!

  7. discoafroman says:

I’d expect a jump in ticket sales to your favorite summer festivals around the East and South US. Had lots of friends that go to Bonnaroo every year and were gonna swing through Woodstock instead.

  8. It’s because they didn’t book Sha Na Na.

  9. This is all Fyre fest had to do to avoid being the huge shit show that it was

  10. Thank god, it would’ve been so far off from the original Woodstock mission.

  11. WooOooooOoooOoooow.

Why am I not surprised though?

  12. HokieScott says:

Does the guy from FYRE need to go down on someone to get this going again?

  13. appogiatura says:

Was Billy McFarland operating this from jail?

  14. >More than $30 million has already been spent on the festival lineup, a source with knowledge of the proposal tells Billboard and most artists have already been paid by Amplify Live, the investment arm of Dentsu Aegis Network.

This is a big sign that the festival bubble has popped. At the very least, investors are gonna be pretty hesitant to invest in festivals moving forward if one of the most iconic and historical festival brands straight up burned investment money with nothing to show for it.

  15. jman457 says:

They really had years to get this to work, and it was still a shit show

  16. bullskull says:

    Shoulda called Wayne and Garth.

  17. I don’t think enough has been said about this:

” Hoping to save the festival, **organizers were planning to fire Rick Farman’s firm Superfly**, hire Dan Berkowitz’s CID Entertainment to produce the festival, and raise $20 million in last-minute financing. Organizers approached both AEG and Live Nation about making a $20 million investment in the troubled festival, but with time running out and infighting grinding festival production to a halt, both AEG and Live Nation passed on bailing the event out. ”

If true, I think this could be a pretty big black mark on Superfly, who really should have their shit together after years of producing Bonnaroo and Outside Lands. When you add this with the cancellation of Lost Lake last year and the hiatus of Grandoozy earlier this year, it appears that some sort of shake up needs to happen with them.

I was really excited to go for the atmosphere and blending 1969 with 2019. It was scheduled the weekend before my birthday too. 🙁

  19. Bummer. I was totally gonna go.

  20. TLLMTT808 says:

    Lineup was trash anyways

  21. NotMeUsee says:

Good. Woodstock 99 was an abomination.

  22. Galileo009 says:

    Called it, baby. CALLED IT.

Fuck those losers trying to milk the nostalgia cash cow rather than contribute to anything.

  23. DarthDude91 says:

This just made my day. The cash grab was unsuccessful!

  24. [deleted] says:

but I had tickets for the Killers!

  25. fnwhy says:

This is the most disappointing thing that has ever happened to me

  26. FL_Squirtle says:

So many shit show festivals… Woodstock, Fyre, Lightning in a Bottle.

These organizers need to get thei shit together

  27. Damn between this and curveball, sure looks like Watkins Glen is a poor venue for a festival…

  28. mmashare06 says:

In a time where music festivals are the best they’ve ever been with literally hundreds all over the world with amazing lineups and production quality, Woodstock just isn’t needed. It was successful back then because that’s all they had. Not to mention riddling the lineup with garbage main stream artists with zero electronic acts… Trash festival. Fuck off.
