Latest Festival Flyer update from Greenbelt

“She’s a star,” said The Guardian, after her 2018 extravaganza (a show that was sequins and showbiz all the way). But if you want to be a 'successful' woman in 2019, it’s time to get serious. In 2019 if you want to be ‘successful' you better have something you want to say and you better be wearing a Serious Black Jumper™ (SBJ™). You might have seen Jayde on 8 Out Of 10 Cats does Countdown. But now, in her SBJ™, Jayde Adams comes to Greenbelt for the first time to rifle through the noise and self-promotion of social media culture and figure out what’s actually going on. As she asks: "If pop stars, razors and even sausage rolls can attach themselves to important movements to sell themselves, why can’t I?"

The shocking murder of George Floyd is the latest horrific example of a centuries-old sickness we all suffer from to some extent, whether we realise it or not.

As a predominantly white festival we need to keep working to better understand our complicity in the systemic racism that people of colour endure all around the world.

Over the years at the festival we’ve been privileged to welcome some outstanding black activists, community leaders, writers and theologians to help us with this. They’re all here for you: bit.ly/gbtalks-blm

Today we’re shining a light on the brilliant Broderick Greer by sharing two talks he’s given for us (in 2016 and 2018) on #BlackLivesMatter. Voices like his are precious and we are proud to call him a friend.

Reading makes us better humans. As Neil Gaiman says about the power of fiction on children: “You get to feel things, visit places and worlds you would never otherwise know. You learn that everyone else out there is a me, as well. You’re being someone else, and when you return to your own world, you’re going to be slightly changed.”

So we’re thrilled to be partnering with The Reading Agency and their Summer Reading Challenge. Today #SummerReadingChallenge launches a new digital challenge - #Let’sGetSilly

What silly books will your family be choosing to read for the Challenge? Join the Challenge by signing up at sillysquad.org.uk with lots of games, book lists and fun rewards – #Let’sGetSilly today! #SillySquad2020
