Latest Festival Flyer update from Greenbelt

A writer and activist, Mariam Khan had the idea for her 'It's Not About the Burqa' book after reading a report in which David Cameron had said that the ‘traditional submissiveness’ of Muslim women was a key problem in the fight against Islamic extremism. Fed up of hearing about what Muslim women were from people who were neither Muslim nor female, Mariam set about bringing together the voices of eighteen Muslim women, and their different stories, all calling time on the oppression, lazy stereotyping, misogyny and Islamophobia. Mariam comes to Greenbelt together with Yassmin Abdel-Magied as part of our engaging with, listening to and seeking to better understand our Muslim friends and neighbours.
