We are so sorry to announce this, but Glastonbury 2020 will have to be cancelled, and this will be an enforced fallow year for the Festival.

Clearly this was not a course of action we hoped to take for our 50th anniversary event, but following the new government measures announced this week - and in times of such unprecedented uncertainty - this is now our only viable option.

We very much hope that the situation in the UK will have improved enormously by the end of June. But even if it has, we are no longer able to spend the next three months with thousands of crew here on the farm, helping us with the enormous job of building the infrastructure and attractions needed to welcome more than 200,000 people to a temporary city in these fields.

We would like to send our sincere apologies to the 135,000 people who have already paid a deposit for a Glastonbury 2020 ticket. The balance payments on those tickets were due at the beginning of April and we wanted to make a firm decision before then.

We understand that it is not always easy to secure a Glastonbury ticket, which is why we would like to offer all those people the chance to roll their Β£50 deposit over to next year, and guarantee the opportunity to buy a ticket for Glastonbury 2021. Those who would prefer a refund of that Β£50 will be able to contact See Tickets in the coming days in order to secure that. This option will remain available until September this year. For those who are happy to roll their deposit over, that will happen automatically. Further information - including details on rolling over coach packages, official accommodation bookings and local Sunday tickets - will be added to our website in the coming days.

The cancellation of this year's Festival will no doubt come as a terrible blow to our incredible crew and volunteers who work so hard to make this event happen. There will also inevitably be severe financial implications as a result of this cancellation - not just for us, but also the Festival's charity partners, suppliers, traders, local landowners and our community.

We were so looking forward to welcoming you all for our 50th anniversary with a line-up full of fantastic artists and performers that we were incredibly proud to have booked. Again, we're so sorry that this decision has been made. It was not through choice. But we look forward to welcoming you back to these fields next year and until then, we send our love and support to all of you.

Michael & Emily

Please leave your deposits in the system. This is going to hit so many people so hard

Absolutely understand, thank you for making a brave decision and we look forward to joining you again on the farm next year. All the best to the whole Glasto team 😘😘😘

Good decision and it will still be the 50th festival next year! Yes we will miss working with the green crafts village and yes we will miss all our festival family.. but let’s enjoy looking forward to the future rather than take risks in the present xxx edit: I’ve had my correction.. it’s not the 50th festival.. it’s the 50th year..

Wow, such a tough decision. Best wishes to all involved in putting it together.

Absolutely correct decision to carry tickets over! This was meant to be our honeymoon but our weddings also been cancelled. Roll on 2021 ✌🏼

Dreadfully sad but absolutely the right decision. Stay safe everyone and isolate ASAP. It’s the only way to stop this ❀️

Please please please ask the BBC, to upload all last years concerts onto BBC iplayer again and on the same dates planned for 2020, so we can relive that magical festival once more.

I am obviously incredibly sad not to join you on the farm this year but I thank-you both for the clarity around the cancellation and understand how hard and disappointed you all must be. Thank-you for allowing us to keep our tickets should we choose to. See you in 2021! Sending love your way xx

Thanks Glastonbury Festival (official) for letting us keep our tickets for 2021. Given the mission to get them, this is much appreciated. Thoughts are with all the crew and event staff who are impacted by this decision. Roll on 2021 when all this madness has passed!

Thank you Emily and Michael. We are all saddened but we respect your choice. Also thank you so much for honouring our tickets this has made the cancellation of the festival 100% more bearable thank you. See you next year ❀

Such sad times, but the right decision at the end of the day 😒😒 thank you for guaranteeing tickets for next year, sending a lot of love to those who may suffer financially xxx roll on 2021 ❀️ bigger & boozier xx

This is really sad but not unexpected news. Wishing everyone involved with the festival in any way the best of luck and even though we didn’t get tickets this year and were heartbroken, fully support the decision to roll the deposits over to next year. Good luck Glasto and all your crew xxx

LOVE TO THE FARM! πŸ’“ As sad as it is! A difficult but very responsible decision to be made! For those that have tickets! It’s not cancelled it is postponed! Your still going to glasto! But in 2021! It’s guaranteed!!! No nail biting stress no panic on an October Sunday morning trying to get tickets! You can all sit back! Now! Relax stay well and look forward to GLASTO 2021 πŸ₯³

Thank you for your continued hard work and I am sure that this decision did not come easy . Thinking of all the local and well know charities that will struggle this year with the cancellation of lots of funding events . Everyone keep supporting charities they need you more than ever .

Tough tough decision to make, absolutely gutted we won’t be down at worthy farm this year. But I am more gutted for all the people that will be financially affected by the defer of the festival this year! FIFTEEN months to make 2021 even better! Every cloud! Stay safe everyone ❀️❀️

Completely understand and appreciate your decision! ♥️☺️ A decision that wasn't made lightly I imagine, but the best decision!...THANK YOU SO MUCH for honouring us with guaranteed tickets for next year!! You are amazing and I couldn't be happier!!!!!! Roll on 2021 ♥οΈπŸ˜ƒ♥️

We knew this was coming, we knew you had no choice but it's still so sad. Thanks for the fantastic decision to allow deposits to be carried over. Hope the entire festival family and crew stay safe and we will see you in 2021 x

Absolutely the right decision. Thank you and well done to the whole team! Will most definitely be there 2021! Something to look forward to, in the meantime music will keep us all sane ❀️

I'm heartbroken. I've worked 6 years and finally got tickets this year. But I can also see that this was absolutely the right decision. Glastonbury is the best place on earth and everyone that's been knows that. You have to protect it, and the people that work and attend there. Thanks for doing what you do, we'll see you in the field in 2021 :'(

Thank you so much for honouring tickets for next year.. This year was the only time I've managed to get tickets, and will be there next year for sure ❀️❀️

Completely understand you making this decision, thank you so much for honouring tickets for next year. Sending best wishes to all involved in this amazing festival. Looking forward to 2021 ❀️

This must have been a really hard decision to make. I'm devastated, but you've done the right thing. Thank you for giving me some of the happiest moments of my life. Can't wait to experience more in June 2021 ❀️

100% behind this difficult decision and with it, looking after the safety and health of all people. See you in 2021! Good luck and good health to all ❀️

Such sad news, I'm gutted! but absolutely the right decision given the crisis we're facing at the moment. Thank you for allowing us to roll tickets over to 2021. Stay safe everyone, and see you all on the farm next year xxx

Totally the correct decision given the uncertainty of everything and the huge amount of work and people that are required to put on the worlds best festival. Am glad we can defer to 2021 and will make it an even bigger 50th party. Thoughts are with the Evis family, all at Worthy Farm and everyone involved. See you in 2021

Right. When Glasto started 50 years ago, the acts they booked were current acts relating to the majority age of people attending, which was young hippies (and a few old ones). If people then had banged on about the music being too current, the alternative would have been to drag out Vera Lynn as a headliner and the Beverley Sisters. Us oldies can’t have it our way and expect Glastonbury to grow and be successful and attract future generations if they bring in a whole load of legend type acts. Grow with Glasto, appreciate we had it good 50 years ago but let go and let the new generation continue to make this place an extraordinary success. And be grateful that the younger generations are being influenced to have social conscience about the many things this festival stands for. Inclusivity. Tolerance. Age no limits. Oh and in 30 years’ time, it’s likely people will be moaning about Stormzy being wheeled out for the Legends slot as they’re queuing for their vitamin infusion drips.

All these people moaning about the line up! Theres so much more to do/see than go the main stages. Think i only saw 6 acts at the main stages last time and had the best time ever. At least all these people moaning should return their tickets and give the chance to people who missed out. I personally think it's a good genre spreading lineup and I have my tickets so will be looking forward to the best wknd of the year . (Finger crossed it still happens)

If you’re a whiner please sell your ticket so somebody deserving can appreciate the beautiful festival for what it is. If you haven’t got a ticket, it’s got nothing to do with you anyway. Stay at home, listen to your iPod and eat your sour grapes while we are singing, dancing and crying with joy.

This will be my 2nd time at Glasto and first time was amazing. Best festival I’ve been to by a mile and I’ve been to lots. Obviously the bands playing helps but the festival will be amazing whatever. I was more excited with it being the 50th so my expectations around the line up were high and to be honest it’s not a great line up at all. Glasto will be amazing but would have been better had the line up been better.

For the 50th birthday this is an awful lineup apart from paul McCartney and diana Ross. There should definitely be more legends here. Correct me if I'm wrong but I dont think black sabbath have ever headlined and they are touring this year.

I’m looking forward to going , but disappointing line up for the headliners, lots of great bands though . πŸ˜‰

Well done for listening to feedback about the line up poster format.

Headliners very poor but the rest of the lineup makes up for that.

Glasto is the king (or Queen!) of festivals β€οΈπŸ‘‘ it really doesnt matter who plays, the whole little world they create for 1 week every year is fukin magical πŸ¦‹βœ¨

I wouldn't pay that kinda money to see any of those acts...!!!! It's supposed to to be a special anniversary..!!! And its very likely, that it will be cancelled anyway.... πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘

GILBERTO GIL AND FAMILY πŸ‡§πŸ‡·

For the 50th anniversary I would of thought headliner like Bruce Springsteen or Dave Gilmore or fleetwood mac etc something like that would of been more the party ,

so wish I could go but wish everyone who can & does a wonderful time. Glastonbury is a whole life experience - not just somewhere to see bands. Thank you to the Eavis family for my happy memories. In my day we could drive in and park your car next to your tent - happy festival all x

Given that Glastonbury are celebrating 50 years this is probably the worst line up I’ve seen in the past 10 years. I wouldn’t worry though. Be surprised if it’s not cancelled anyway with this Coronavirus

To be honest I think it’s quite a poor line up but I think as it’s the 50th they didn’t have to make too much of an effort but I think the big one will be next year and so I’ve heard it’s 70% newbie’s this year, see how many will want to return especially after using the long drops πŸ˜‚

The festival should be cancelled in the interests of public health. It's a huge shame but peoples lives are more important.

Great lineup! Hope Bombay Bicycle Club get added

I don’t think that’s a line up WORTHY of Glastonbury to be honest. I have been 3 times and it’s an epic festival in every other way but I’m feeling the lineup is failing somewhat year on year and other festivals are getting the big names instead... anyone else seeing this ??

The addition of Herbie Hancock alone makes this a superior line up to any of the others over the past decade

With what’s going on at the moment I have a feeling this is like one of those Bullseye moments of “let’s have a look at what you could’ve won.” Either going to have to look at changing the date or consider it may not be happening at all this year sadly.

Crap line up especially as it’s their 50th anniversary. Congrats on making this flyer readable πŸ˜œπŸ˜‚

I can’t see how that’s a bad line up. It looks like a standard something for everyone glasto line up to me.

If ticket holders from Europe and beyond are on lockdown and can’t fly to the UK, will those tickets be resold to UK residents? πŸ§πŸ€”

Hopefully all the rock bands will be on the next line up announcement ✌

Isn’t it more about discovering new bands and music as well rather than seeing what you already like. Went last year and came away with some really good new music, some different opinions on artists and some clarification of n bands. I’d have happily sat at the Park Stage with a beer soaking up the atmosphere.

So, after much consideration given the current circumstances, and with the best of intentions, here is the first list of musical acts for Glastonbury 2020.

As things stand we are still working hard to deliver our 50th anniversary Festival in June and we are very proud of the bill that we have put together over the last year or so. No one has a crystal ball to see exactly where we will all be 15 weeks from now, but we are keeping our fingers firmly crossed that it will be here at Worthy Farm for the greatest show on Earth!

As always this is just a taste of what is to come, we plan to announce many more artists and attractions, area by area, over the coming weeks leading up to the full line-up in May.

In the meantime we post this with much love to all.

You can see a non-circular version of the artwork - and full text list - over on our website, at www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/line-up/

Here’s hoping it can still go ahead, 🀞It’s such an incredible festival. It’s so valuable for our tourism in our beautiful county Somerset. #LoveSomerset

Poster reminds me of one of the most underrated bands and albums of the 00’s,The Music. They deserve a slot just for ripping off their album cover. As always line up is great but second behind the fact that it really is the greatest show on earth!

What a ridiculous design for a poster, I gave up after two cycles! Maybe it’s an attempt to deflect from a less than wonderful anniversary line up?! πŸ€”

In the case this year's festival has to be cancelled, please consider transferring 2020 tickets to 2021. People have put a great amount of time and money into going this year, so it would help out a lot to assure they will be able to go eventually in case of cancellation.

Thats the worst line up I've seen in 50 years and I'm not exaggerating! It will still be class, but it would have been nice to have one massive act to look forward to.

Going to say it one last time you had the chance to have the legendary Stevie Nicks and her band of merry men play and ended up with Taylor Swift. Please just think about that.

Piss off all harbingers of doom! If you don’t like the lineup and it matters that much to you - don’t go! The poster is a record...link....music...get it? I think it’s fab they have put a message out to slow down the ridiculous speculation we’ve got going on - like they said, who knows? But let’s not give up!

Lamar? Headlining? WTF, what happened to proper headliners. Legends of music i.e 40th anniversary was Stevie Wonder

Your positivity and honestly is much much needed in this crazy world right now and it’s certainly given me a real boost after a hard day finally accepting this horrid situation! Hope to see you beautiful soul. There’s no place I’d rather be!!!!!!! xx

Considering there’s probably over a thousand other things to see at Glastonbury, great work! I’m happy if I can see at least 4 main stage acts I may want to see on the list. The rest is discovering new artists, chilling out and soaking up the vibes/atmosphere. Plenty to do/see over a few days. Best of luck to the huge team pulling this together. πŸ‘πŸ»

Worst festival poster ever. Death core festival posters are easier to read than this cartwheel. Nice line up though πŸ€™πŸΌπŸ”₯

McCartney, Supergrass, Manics, Fontaines DC, Squid, Beth, Happy Mondays, Scream, Olsen. Poor line up again.

Thank you so much for bringing the poster out today and lightening the gloom. Thank you also for letting me watch Elbow, Diana Ross and Sir Paul, all in the same weekend.

I hope it goes ahead. Not looking likely at the moment. There's always next year. I may be lucky enough to get a ticket then πŸ˜—πŸ˜—

This has cheered me up on an otherwise dreary day! Praying it’s not cancelled - can’t miss seeing the Manics at the 50th anniversary of my favourite festival in the world.

Last time I checked I didn’t read in the style of a washing machine. Ridiculous

Great line up Just disappointed that I couldn’t get a ticket this year. But I hope everyone has a good time because Glastonbury is the best festival

Counted about 25 acts that I'd definitely be interested in giving a watch and this is only the tip of the iceberg. I guess the benefit of not having a ticket this year is not having to worry about heartbreaking clashes, or trying to find time to just amble around and soak up the atmosphere without worrying about missing something I'd later regret. Hope things definitely go ahead and that everyone with tickets has a blast - whatever they spend their weekend watching/doing!

No need for a crystal ball. Seriously???? You are not getting it??? Italy's health system is collapsing 😒 I definitely wish that it won't be the case anywhere else in the world but it's definitely the wrong decision! Public health should come first

Please say everyone who's got tickets for this year can carry them forward if the worst happens. Hoping for the best this year. Look after yourselves x🀞🀞🀞🀞

As always with Glastonbury, it’s all about the little corners of magic, I’ve never been one for the big stages personally. It’s always been about the total gems on the smaller stages and the people you meet. Fingers crossed it happens, we need some light these days and Glastonbury has always held that torch for so many, at home on tv or as a lucky ticket holder. God speed guys and all your hard work x

What an amazing line up - only wish I had a ticket but some brilliant musical experiences ahead for those who do. Enjoy

Not my favourite lineup by any means. I missed out on tickets this year but would still love to be there. One of the greatest experiences in my life was to be at Glastonbury. I hope to be back again and take my 5 year old daughter. She just loves music regardless of who is playing. Glastonbury has so much more to offer including meeting other people who just go to get away from reality and embrace all forms of music and art. If you are lucky enough to have a ticket have an awesome time.

Awesome lineup so far. Looking forward to seeing what other surprises they have in store!!

If the rumours of all women on the pyramid Sunday is true, pls move heaven and earth to get Halsey pls and thank u. Lana will be unreal good job Emily on the bookings so far ❀️

This is not fantastic. Personally, I cannot abide her.

ive heard of her obviously, but being old thought probably not for me. Wrong! Shes She’s done some very good stuff, hope she doesn’t clash with one of my must see’s.

Yawn. .there are better and more talented ladies out there..... Laura Marling, Haim Lorde are 3 that spring to mind immediately

She was great before. Moody music. Barefoot. Hippy dress. Smoking a cig. I thought she was mesmerising.

Fantastic more summer time sadness writes songs sing most are pop girls she is the real deal

Finally an artist I wish I’d managed to get tickets for.

I've seen her at Sziget Festival . It was the worst concert I've ever seen on the main stage. That's definitely not the place where she belongs.

Kendrick Lamar will be Friday headliner, you heard it here first! (Or probably a number of other places first πŸ˜‚)

I was so looking forward to seeing her at Glastonbury last time but jeez what a let down.So boring

Was it as the other headliner? She's good like but still waiting for some big band announcement

Hope it's more interesting than her latitude concert... She stopped after 4 songs and took selfies with the crowd for 10 minutes ... No music just selfies

Always watch be definitely watching Lana del Rey

Hope the sound is better than at Latitude last year - Lana was dreadful

In other news Paul McCartney's also headlining, much betterπŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

Oooohhh..... Still missing a Live Concert with Lana!!!

Well that will be boring, she'll sing the cows to sleep 😴

Since Emily started taking over the bookings.....nose dive #ruiningit

Can you just release the line up now!!!!!

How about this for a days line up, rioke traore, Laura mvula, haim, the xx, Alabama Shakes, florence and the machine.

He?! Worlds first Lana's a fella

She can sing us a lullaby before we go to sleep....

It doesn’t seem like I m going anywhere close to pyramid stage this year... come on Glasto give us a good name!

If you wanna get depressed, ideal! πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘€
