Citadel Festival

We would like to say how very disappointed and sorry we are that customers experienced problems trying to leave the event via Acton Town Station yesterday evening.

We work closely with Transport for London in all stages of the planning and delivery of the event and had jointly agreed and communicated that the last tube would leave Acton Town Station at 11.52pm.

Unfortunately, Acton Town Station took the decision to close the station before we were able to get the last customers onto the last train, a situation which was compounded by the fact that services were not running as scheduled.

We sincerely apologise, this is not the experience we had envisioned for our guests, and nor is it line with our values.

We take all your feedback extremely seriously. We will undertake a thorough debrief process in conjunction with Transport for London to ensure all learnings are incorporated into any future planning of the event.

That's one thing Citadel, but your staff calling my boyfriend a cunt as he helped me over the barriers as I struggled to breathe during a panic attack is another thing.

I'm sorry but who on earth did your calculations and said that an hour of trains every 7mins will accommodate thousands of people try to get out of Acton Town?

I’m deeply disappointed with your organisation #citadel: - you put the headliner at the very end, just to make thousands of people leave at the same time, shame on you - you didn’t provide alternative transport(you mentioned that acton town will be open until everyone gets home, which was a lie) - your security staff couldn’t provide any useful information - the last train was so packed that people couldn’t even breathe ( there were on average 150 people per carriage) #shitadel

Sorry Citadel. That was a 400 mile round trip (I’ve been to the last two) and it was a complete shambles. Security and organisation were shambolic and offensive. The queues for single water taps were atrocious given that people were not allowed in with water. In that heat! Barely any shade. Your misleading ‘apology’ is an insult.

Got to be honest citadel, I drove and had a great day. When you get any public transport on a Sunday what do you expect. Can’t totally blame organisers for that people need to take responsibility to make sure they accommodate for crowds and herds of people at the end. I live in Southampton and was home by 12:30 and stayed until the end. Happy days! Even if I had got in at 4am seeing Goat is always worth any transport issues! ❤️

Sorry, but this is bollocks. You ‘organised’ a designated Uber/Taxi rank that had to be abandoned after 20 minutes because the logistics simply didn’t work. You piggybacked off of Lovebox’s event and hoped it would all work out, and it didn’t. Just own up and admit that your organisation failed.

Very poorly organised. Citadel organisers should reimburse everyone who had to fork out extra cash for taxi services and trains

Values? In addition to the stress caused by the ONE exit; the lack of transport home and lack of shelter from the sun - my daughter spent ALL day in a state of heightened anxiety due to the very real possibility of dehydration. She has a condition which causes her to dehydrate easily. Given that they are not allowed to bring in their drinks, it is disgusting that there was not enough facility for free rehydration - queues well over half an hour long so she spent over £10 on water. Other festivals also have people handing it out and/or provide it at the bar. You people are not music lovers, you are exploitative profiteers. Guess you hold the same till as the Lovebox festival - you definitely have the same dangerous and heartless MO and as complaints from Lovebox were aready in you could have addressed this. I shall be looking into this further. I've just found out also that she was also told she wasn't allowed to sit ANYWHERE, despite being unwell and telling staff she felt ill. She was actually sick (she does not drink alcohol) so probably was suffering dehydration. Values? - You are sickening capitalists with no heart and must not be not allowed to repeat this,

You cannot blame TFL. Showsec staff and police were rude and no one communicated ANYTHING to the thousands of people herded like fucking sheep in the barricades. People fainting from sheer heat exhaustion and lack of toilet/drinking facilities. Absolute fuck up and a half. The amount of people stranded in London was disgusting, young girls and family’s with no where to go because you didn’t communicate or manage the situation. I can safely say that I will never be coming back. And as for the 200 I spent on luckily, getting back to Cambridge, I and many others need reimbursing for the shit that was endured. #shitadel

The last tube did leave at 11.52 and that wasn’t anywhere near late enough to get the thousands of people home safely. Also the tube station was not properly organised and was very unsafe in the manner of pushing close to the edge. Barriers should have been put up and more stewards should’ve been present. I thankfully made the last tube however when I went to change to go to Euston the tubes were closed. Leaving me stranded in the middle of London with no way of getting to Euston and missing the last train home. Such a negative memory of what should’ve been an amazing day 😢

I will be advising anyone considering going to Citadel in the future not to go on any account. Even though the festival alerted people to the fact that the last train left Acton Town at 11.52pm, they clearly feeling like they had absolved themselves of responsibility, but instead 25,000 people were herded towards one station, in small penned lanes, making a 10 min walk take an HOUR, and myself and my friends (and many other young vulnerable people) stranded, trying to get back to Southend - we took the night bus (which we were fortunate to get on, the bus went past four other stops without stopping as it was full), a taxi which cost £65 and a very kind parent who drove us the last 30 mins home. Unforgivable.

Not wanting to sound smug, but I left at around 8pm as I had small children. Walking back you could tell it was going to be absolute carnage knowing 30-40,000(?) people were going to be suddenly funnelled out of one entrance to one station. I had guests staying with me the night before for Lovebox and it took them 2 hours just to get out! What I don’t understand is Gunnersbury Park has 3 other exits providing relief for visitors to get to Kew Bridge, Gunnersbury and South Ealing Stations all within a mile. Most events of this size usually have one entrance, but several exits when it comes to leave at the end - it’s a matter of a simple safety precaution and immediate dispersal should anything serious happen. Perhaps better (or any) planning next time?

Maybe try ending the festival earlier than 10.30 and providing more than one exit then. The blame lies with you, not TFL. You blocked off all the roads leading to the 4/5 other stations people could have used. You were criminally negligent, especially for something that touts itself as a family festival.

How about having shuttle buses on to the different train/coach stations around London. We were stood in the queue for around an hour and a half, we couldn't get out as I had my son with me. He was very frightened to say the least. I brought him because it said it was a family friendly festival, which in fairness it was, we had a great day. We were only told after an hour and a half that's the station had been shut and there were no more tubes. So after a 20 minute walk with a frightened child and two buses later, we managed to get to our hotel! We were lucky many people didn't make it home until the morning after or where charged a fortune for a taxi home. My son doesn't want to go to a festival again. Not good enough really is it!

The Piccadilly line timetable states that the last tube leaves Acton Town at 11:52 pm on a Sunday. Interestingly, I note that the timetable is date stamped with 21/5/17 in the bottom right hand corner. Can you please elaborate further with what joint agreements and communication actually occurred? I find it difficult to believe you were working closely with TfL in May last year when they published the timetable to ensure your guests got home safely over a year later. Link to the timetable for your reference content.tfl.gov.uk/fandl-piccadilly-wtt-58.pdf

Why were there not any coaches out into central London that people could’ve pre booked? Surely it is obvious that thousands and thousands of people aren’t going to fit on one tube line. The exit was disgustingly organised and executed. Staff were rude and incredibly unhelpful. Laughing when we asked for advice and giving absolutely no news on what the hell was going on as we all stood crammed in between those fences. Was an absolute nightmare and me and many other young girls were absolutely terrified. Me and my friends had to pay £71 to get home. I hope you will reimburse some of these shocking costs people have had to pay. You need to accept that a lot of what happened IS your fault and you cannot blame this on transport for London. You did not give out enough information nor options to get home. Absolutely appalling. You need to sort this out for next year so people don’t end up sleeping rough in the streets of London with no water

So in other words, you're putting the blame on TFL rather than taking responsibility for the poor crowd management. I've never seen such a monumental fuck up in all my years of gig going.

We left right before tame impala finished seems everyone had the same idea a stressful situation being herded like cattle through different lanes with staff swearing at us and confusing us even more. I was lucky I got my train but many people i know didn’t get home till the early hours after paying loads for a taxi. Situation would have been so much better if the staff weren’t so awful to us I know that if I was swearing at visibly upset customers in my job I wouldn’t have one.

Going in the festival at 3pm it was obvious that leaving after Tame Impala was going to be a nightmare! We booked a cab which luckily we caught after being made to queue just to walk through Acton Town tube station to access Bollo Lane Showsec should have been telling people on Gunnersbury Lane only to enter the barriers if they were going to the tube - easy! Instead they were just forcing people to stay inside the barriers regardless of safety/people’s needs Such a shame for so many people as the festival was great!

How was this communicated? Myself and my friends had seen nothing regarding this. The last tube did leave then, but there was still thousands of people unable to get on any transport near by as we were forced in actual holding pens and no one could tell us what was happening. We queued for an hour, then half an hour for a bus... and eventually just admitted defeat and paid £60 for a taxi. I had such a brilliant day, we all did. Such a shitty end though. There was literally no other option but to get a taxi... I saw young families and teenagers totally panicked when they realised they were stranded and unable to get on public transport. That is a lot of money to pay and I definitely wouldn't of been able to afford it if I hadn't of shared the taxi with friends.

Oh please, take responsibility for your monumental fuck up! Don't put all of the blame on TFL! Showsec security behaved appallingly and they in turn had been given no information presumably by yourselves, the organisers. A shambles all round. Do your research properly and provide a high standard of security where people feel safe and secure in their potentially harmful environment.

Absolute shambles to say the least. We missed our last train home and had to sleep outside Waterloo station until our first train this morning at half 6, and had to pay an extra £40 to get home because the tickets expired last night. Never seen anything like it. Carnage.

myself and my partner both missed our travel home and had to wait at Victoria coach station until the next train which was 5am the next morning, which cost me £64 Jay Dunne

Agree with others who have said you should compensate customers for the extra travel so many of us had to purchase. We got back to Bristol at 8.30am this morning after spending £88.50 each (3 of us) to get a train back in the morning instead. We were stranded in London all night with no where to stay cause it’s too expensive, and luckily had enough water still on us for it to not be extremely horrible. The event was great but being trapped in fences for hours afterwards to then miss every form of transport home is not okay!!

It was awesome to see Tame Impala, but the travel back home was the worst travel experience I’ve ever had. I don’t understand why people were being informed that the trains would run for 24 hours on a Sunday. Many people would’ve obviously been stranded with just three Piccadilly trains arriving every 12 minutes. Luckily, I left right after Tame Impala finished their set and got the last Jubilee line home.
