Latest update from Carfest
We grabbed a five minute chit chat with the sensational Grand Old Uke of York who are coming back to rock the Wigwam Stage at CarFest North!
🎤 How are you feeling about performing in the North?
👩🎤 We’re so excited to be playing CarFest for the third year running because we get such an amazing reaction from the crowd every year. We had people dancing on the tables at lunchtime last time and a queue to get into the Wigwam, it was so busy. Even Pudsey and Blush turned up for a little bop!
🎤 That’s awesome. What songs do you play to cause that reaction?
👩🎤 We deliberately don’t play the usual ukulele covers and it’s brilliant to see the smiles and reactions from people when we start playing a Primal Scream, Pulp or a Paloma Faith tune.
🎤 Brilliant! So how did you folks start out?
👩🎤 The band started when a few of us began meeting to jam with ukuleles upstairs in a pub each week. We didn’t start out trying to get gigs but its grown arms and legs really.
🎤 Just a bit! So what have been some of your craziest moments?
👩🎤 We’ve played the Tour De France opening ceremony to 300 million viewers when it came to Yorkshire, appeared in our own Toyota advert and this spring played at The Cavern Club for a tribute to George Harrison’s on what would have been his 75th Birthday. We’d never have thought we’d play at all of these amazing places on little old ukuleles.
🎤 Any last words for the Carfesters?
👩🎤 CarFest is the highlight of our year because the atmosphere is just so friendly, there’s an amazing buzz about the place and the crowd are an amazing bunch of lovely people! We cannot wait to play for them.
Bring it on!
