Latest update from Carfest

We grabbed a five minute chit chat with the sensational Grand Old Uke of York who are coming back to rock the Wigwam Stage at CarFest North!

🎤 How are you feeling about performing in the North?

👩‍🎤 We’re so excited to be playing CarFest for the third year running because we get such an amazing reaction from the crowd every year. We had people dancing on the tables at lunchtime last time and a queue to get into the Wigwam, it was so busy. Even Pudsey and Blush turned up for a little bop!

🎤 That’s awesome. What songs do you play to cause that reaction?

👩‍🎤 We deliberately don’t play the usual ukulele covers and it’s brilliant to see the smiles and reactions from people when we start playing a Primal Scream, Pulp or a Paloma Faith tune.

🎤 Brilliant! So how did you folks start out?

👩‍🎤 The band started when a few of us began meeting to jam with ukuleles upstairs in a pub each week. We didn’t start out trying to get gigs but its grown arms and legs really.

🎤 Just a bit! So what have been some of your craziest moments?

👩‍🎤 We’ve played the Tour De France opening ceremony to 300 million viewers when it came to Yorkshire, appeared in our own Toyota advert and this spring played at The Cavern Club for a tribute to George Harrison’s on what would have been his 75th Birthday. We’d never have thought we’d play at all of these amazing places on little old ukuleles.

🎤 Any last words for the Carfesters?

👩‍🎤 CarFest is the highlight of our year because the atmosphere is just so friendly, there’s an amazing buzz about the place and the crowd are an amazing bunch of lovely people! We cannot wait to play for them.

Bring it on!

We loved the kitchen stage. Great entertainment all weekend and Andrew is a fab host!

You can't miss my boy! First picture, between James and Mark Webber in his yellow Starlight t-shirt. Was an awesome experience! Thank you so much

Yes - we're on a few at CFS - loved the Kitchen Stage - please keep it going!

I was sat off to the side, saw Angelliica and James, both great, got their autographs x

Just out of shot in all the ones we went to. Typical!! Great stage though, spent almost of time there with my daughter. Thank you. Xx

Loved this stage. James Martin 😍😘

Tried to, couldn't even get near the tent for the amount of people there. Not complaining though, it's great so many people enjoyed it 😁

No pic of Kenny Tutt?

Peter Whitehouse we're in here somewhere!

CarFest Storytime Alert 🚨 We love hearing tales from each of you sharing the fantastic moments you have spent with us this summer. Especially when you tell us that you came face-to-face with your mum's long lost car at the show!

Nigel (seen below in the picture on the right) sent a message to CarFest HQ this past week. He outlined his complete shock at discovering his mum's old Mini at CarFest South! Nigel and his wife stumbled upon the car whilst strolling through the world of Vintage CarFest, which was a gift from his grandad to his mum Pamela back in 1966! He even shared an old Polaroid of Pamela and the Mini, seen below on the left!

Nigel explained that he was certain the car would have been scrapped years ago, but CarFesters we are delighted to confirm that it has been kept in excellent shape by loving new owners! 🙌
