Latest update from Camp Bestival
Excited to announce this year’s Pig’s Big Ballroom line-up – our emporium of vintage beats and sonic treats. Over to curator Greg Butler…
"The Shellac Collective have been performing at Camp Bestival thick and thin since it started in 2008 and we're thrilled to still be invited back here to come and entertain you all with our mix of vintage, Jazz, Skiffle, Rhythm and Blues, Swing, Country, Folk, Roots and early World Music. The artists and performers in the Pig's Big Ballroom are carefully selected to reflect the joy of an earlier pre-digital age before synthesizers were invented and when R&B meant something totally different to what it does today. ALL our DJs, as ever, only use original shellac 78rpm gramophone records on the famous "Wheels of Wood" carefully monitored by our mascot "Kipper the Cat".
For those of you who are wondering why our venue is called the ‘Pig's Big Ballroom’ – it's in honour of John Peel – who would play a 78 every night on his show called the Pig's Big 78 – introduced by his wife Sheila who he affectionately called ‘The Pig’.”
