We’re heartbroken to hear of the passing of John Prine. John was a very special member of the Cambridge Folk Festival family, performing many times over the years and bringing joy to everyone who heard him play. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this sad time.

Here’s a video of John playing Cambridge from 2002. His music will live on in our hearts >>>https://bit.ly/2VcZjGb

First time I walked into the festival arena was in 1987. The first person I heard was John Prine.

Enjoyed John's music since I saw him on the Whistle Test in 1973 and went out and bought Diamonds in the Rough and then Sweet Revenge. Through CFF I got to see him live at various times through the years. Many thanks for that.

One of many great artists brought to us by the Cambridge Folk Festival. A massive loss.

Very sad news. Totally unique talent. Irreplaceable😭

Love his music and so sad at this news

1998 - John duetting with Nanci Griffith - Speed of the Sound of Loneliness - a precious memory.

Hello T-Shirt Competition Entrants/Friends,

We have had a couple of enquiries from entrants regarding this year’s t-shirt competition and what will happen due to this year’s cancellation. So we thought it would be best to send an update to everyone outlining what we have in store…

We are still looking for a winner and runner up from amongst the applications we have received – which has been one of the best year’s yet! The plan is to roll over the winner’s prize and the runner’s up prize for the competition to the 2021 Festival, we will are also still looking at the possibility of being able to produce a physical t-shirt(s) for purchase online this year and we hope that we will be able to share some exciting new about this later down the line. We will also look to run the competition again for the 2021 Festival which will give anyone a chance who is unsuccessful this year to get their creative hats on again and try again!

Take Care.

When or how can we put this year’s festival tickets towards 2021 festival please? 🙂. Hope everyone is well in CFFHQ

How about a virtual CFF2020??? So many musicians along with folk supporters and promoters are putting on events like this! Surely the greatest folk festival in the world could organize SOMETHING at the end of July beginning of August where at least 20-30 “folk” artists can perform for 30 minutes each over 2 or 3 days. I know I would happily contribute to this. Please think about it Eddie. We NEED it👍😁

What a great set it was as well.

We saw him at the festival in 2018 and he was brilliant. I hope he and his wife can get through this.

He’s such a fighter - we pray he wins this battle too....

Here's a photo from CFF 1973 .. quote ' looks like everybody drinks this stuff round here ' He was magnificent along with his best buddy, Steve Goodman .. that was a vintage year. Hope John gets through this .. he's a determined fella!

My thoughts go out to John and his family. I hope he is going to be OK. He is a legend.

Here's to a speedy recovery

What a shame 🙁

Loved this set. Hoping John pulls through this xxx

He was at my first. 1987 I think.

Saw John many times including his last visit to Cambridge and hope to see him again !

My favourite singer-songwriter. First saw him in ‘73.

I am sad to hear the news of their illness hope they pull through 😥

First saw John Prine at the Cambridge Festival I think in 1992. Nanci Griffith joined him to sing "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" and my amateur photographer husband took a wonderful black & white photo, which we cherish.

Sad news...🤞

A great, great man.

The reason I went to Cambridge in 2018. Absolutely fabulous set. So sad to hear this😢

Very sad to hear this, get well soon John.

His gig at your festival was awesome. His music maker nu day. Sending healing love to John and family❤

Sending get well thoughts to zjohn and his wife xx

Wish him well ❤️

A real songwriters songwriter. Thoroughly enjoyed and was mesmerized by his CFF sets both in 2012 and 2018. His most recent album could well be his best imho. “The Tree of Forgiveness”. Astonishing talent. Makes you cry, makes you laugh, makes you think. Truly unique.

Sad news indeed, seen him several times at Cambridge, just love his laid back style and sense of humour. Get well please.

Best wishes to both xx

Terrible news. Please get well, John

  1. A nice Tshirt but the sizes were all
over the place with the different designs. Would be good for the staff to have a handy sizing guide for each different one. I had to take the first one back as it was sold to me as a Large but turned out to be a child’s size. Didn’t have any adult sizes of the one I wanted so picked a different one.

  2. Thought the location was not as good and hard to see the t-shirts, as it was a small area and dark, preferred when you had them on the hangers (although am sure there would be a reason). I actually think there is too much choice too, I bought a lanyard though (you have converted me).;-)

  3. No one on the stall knew about enamel badges. They were on the price list (as they were last year) but “arriving later”, until they were crossed off the list. Did they ever exist 😕?

  4. Yes we would like a pocket sized program thanks! I did look at the T shirts but not impressed with sizes as rather fitted on the small size. So I bought a beautiful Kaftan instead from the other Merchandising tent.

  5. Also prefer pocket size programmes but more importantly please look at the colours you use for the times of acts. Orange on pale Orange! It’s difficult or impossible to read late in the evenings. Thanks
