Following the theme of World Environment Day, we are thrilled to share with you this very special message from talented singer-songwriter and co-founder of Music Declares Emergency, Sam Lee!

We’d like to say a huge thanks to Sam for taking the time to film this message especially for us and we hope you find it both empowering and informative, as we did.

📣 Calling all budding wildlife photographers 📷

We would love if you would share with us any of your wildlife photography or perhaps any interesting pictures or findings from your daily strolls in lockdown? Or, Maybe you have captured some local biodiversity in action?

Folk Festival staff member Bernie Kedge has been involved with the festival since 1990 and attended since the begining! Bernie is also a wonderfully talented wildlife photographer and has been kind enough to share some of his work.

During lockdown Bernie has enjoyed lots of wildlife in the garden - watching all the stages of the nesting season goings on of Great Tits.( Photo, Great Tit fledgling). Regular visits to his bird feeder from Blue Tits, Starlings (photo), Blackbirds, Wood Pigeons and Robins, and throughout March and most of April, a Dunnock( Photo) serenading him from the branch of a dead Cherry tree.

Butterflies have also paid a visits - the tiny Holly Blue and Brimstone were the first to fly in, followed closely by a Peacock, Comma, Speckled Wood, Small Tortoiseshell, and huge numbers of Orange Tip Butterflies (photo).

My gardening (in Cherry Hinton) was supervised.

Not a lockdown photo, but I took this with a very old phone right outside our tent at CFF 2014.

The meadow along Barnwell Road, near the Coldhams Common campsite, where people wait for buses to the festival site ( plus traffic noise ...much more since lockdown eased). Poppies, cornflower, corncockle

Greater Spotted Woodpecker, now fledged. Just in my local wood. Lucky me!!

A couple from my daily walk home from work.

A lucky snap of Jay mid flight..broomfield essex

A few snaps taken from my working from home office... Mixing bird watching with insurance

Taken in bluebell woods on the farm where I live.

As seen flying over South Cambridgeshire

Blackbird chicks x 4 in the honeysuckle 💕

And also a Cinnabar moth

Today is World Environment Day 🌎 and this year’s focus is on biodiversity 🌳 🐝 🦆

The sites where our festival takes place, Cherry Hinton Hall and Coldham’s Common, are two of Cambridge’s biggest green spaces with high levels of biodiversity and a huge variety of species – plants, animals and insects – that thrive there year-round. A big part of our environmental focus is on preserving and protecting these species from harm as we host 14,000 people on the site every year and minimising the impact we all have with plastics and other pollutants.

Check out the info we’re sharing today about what biodiversity is, why it matters, and how YOU can support biodiversity wherever you are in the world.

📣 Eddie’s lockdown tune of the day

Today’s Lockdown Track. Who was there when an unknown called Mumford &Sons opened-up the Thursday night on Stage 2 in 2009? This, Little Lion Man, was their debut single, (they’d already released 3 EPs) and it came out the following week. We had to wait ‘til the autumn for their first album, Sigh No More.

Yes we were right on the front rail in the middle. I have a load of great photos and videos of their performance somewhere😂 We really enjoyed them a lot but we’re still surprised at how big they became. Seen so many wonderful performances from artists at the very start of their careers at CFF, the booker(s) are to be greatly commended👏👏👏

I remember him apologising in advance for the swearing in the song. It also absolutely belted down with rain earlier in the evening (though that's happened so many times I could be mistaken)!

I gave up trying to get near Stage 2 on Thursday. Way too crowded. Time to open up the big stage on Thursday.

Fliss Bocock show Matt this, it was a great start to the festival for us!

We were there, Mike Harvey!
