But in many countries, it is still illegal to be gay. Did British colonisers export homophobia around the world?

  1. Yes, many of the places where its still illegal are under colonial law

  2. James Maher says:

What utter rubbish. Where is the evidence. Most of these countries were and are tribal fact. Under British rule they bacame civilised. Now look at most them.

  3. Yes. Religion through Britain spread homophobia

  4. And yet our government deports black and Asian LGBT people seeking asylum every day.

  5. His hair wasn’t right either who cut it his mam???

  6. Rik Elliott says:

This is what angers me about the British monarchy and politics….The queen should have the power to pressure other countries of the commonwealth to follow suit! What’s the point of being head of the country without having influence! 😡

  7. The Europeans brought Christianity to these countries during colonisation and created this. Without religion and conformation to that religion people had more freedom.

  8. Tim Walden says:

Stephen Fry on QI said something like: there’s thousands of species that exhibit homosexuality; only one exhibits homophobia.

    Guess which one.

  9. Yes absolutely, this country’s past behaviour in other countries is appalling right up as late as the 1970’s, we may be forward thinking now but it’s amazing how many people seem not to even know that homosexuality was once illegal in Britain until relatively recently. Learn some history before making stupid comments & showing your ignorance.

  10. Gary Hickman says:

Keeping slaves was biblical though, right?

  11. Gisela Mann says:

The Bible assumes that slavery is normal. And there is plenty of evidence in favour of it. http://docsouth.unc.edu/church/string/string.html. However, you know inherently, that despite what the bible says, it is wrong to cause another person to forcibly work against their will for no pay in conditions of entrapment and threat of violence. If we choose to use compassion and basic human rights to fight for freedom for all persons against slavery, even though there is biblical evidence that it’s an acceptable practice, then, in the same way, we should use compassion and basic human rights to allow people to love who they love without reproach.
