We are really sad that it was cancelled but totally understand your decision, I’m sure it couldn’t of been easy ! We decided to make the most of a bad situation and have our own little festival !

It’s such a shame it’s come to this and I was one of those who was a tad frustrated with the lack of info following the cancellation but I’ve got to say you guys have done fantastically well to be able to issue all these refunds!! Hats off to all at boardmasters! I do hope I get the chance to experience the festival next year!!! Here’s to 2020!

Thank you very much for the update, must have been such a difficult decision to cancel. Not to mention all the refunds. Thank you Boardmasters, missed you this year, but will deffinately be back. 🙌

Nice to get an update. When Boardies was cancelled, I used the festival spending money I had put aside to get a last minute ticket for my daughter to go to Boomtown. She went to that (and had a great time), and I went home, pretty much broke and spent the weekend thinking of what might have been. For most of us on here, going to a festival is our annual holiday. We save for it, plan for it, take time off work for it. True, shit happens, things get cancelled, but when shit does happen, we'd like our money back as soon as possible and until we get it back, we'd like to know that we are getting it back 100%. Pretty sure you people have had a very hard week, but there are 60,000 people out there who have also had a bit of a tough one wondering whether they will ever see their money again.

Keep the updates coming, people are appreciating the efforts you guys are making. We were all upset, all in the same boat, artists , organisers, festival goers. See you in 2020 x

I really hope you refund all the traders, etc too? Small businesses are in danger of going under due to the potential loss. One trader I’m aware off could suffer a loss of £50,000.00. It’s their livelihoods and this is no fault of their own. Do the right thing, Boardmasters, please!!

Thank you Boardmasters for continuing through this arduous task amongst some awful criticism. Just goes to show how an organised, professional event should be run.

Well done to all who are involved in the refund your doing an amazing job all

Gutted again for all of the team who put so much into making this better every year ! One of the beauties of this festival is it’s proximity to the sea but that in itself is also one of the risks . When Bastille were cancelled a couple of years ago due to winds refunds came no problem so I had every faith and I know this must be on a list of many things that need sorting . If people don’t want this risk play safe and go inland . Me on the other hand can’t wait for BM 2020

Thanks for the updated information. I really do feel for the whole team. I hope it doesn’t affect future events.

patience people patience, i'm still in mourning here.. let 2019 subside then onto 2020, which must have a mixed up jumbled up shook up world of music.. who to let go and who to bring back.. i mean this event must take more than a year's worth to organise with BiG names and headliners.. imagine if Adele finishes her album as predicted in december and she's on the boardies 2020 pipeline headliner.. so be it, i think i would rather want to see Florence + The Machine up for headliner.. there i said it! thanks boardies

Thanks boardmasters x

Charity donations we had to make to buy resident passes?

I’m sure it’s not as easy as everyone thinks it is to sort the refunds for thousands of people. Well done to Boardmasters for keeping the communication going 👍

come on boardmasters , I want my money back , been nearly 2wks now !!!!!!!!!

How many people got their tickets before they paid for it? None. No it does not take time to give money back. Its just as quick as typing this message. Its 2019 the technology is their to make this process very quick. The festival organisers are dragging their heels. I bet the main acts already have their wages for doing nothing. Lol

Can't believe people expect refunds within a week. Boardies capacity is around 55,000 and was pretty much sold out. That's a lot of money to sort out and they're likely waiting on their insurance to pay out first as they have already incurred a lot of the costs that your ticket covers. Have some fucking patience and for a minute just realise that they don't like this situation any more than you do for crying out loud. Some of the people on here are being pathetic.

Boardmasters good work refunding all tickets, surely trader pitches have to be included with this? Traders make up a big part of festival culture and most are small independent business owners doing it for the love!

Well played Boardmasters! Hopefully everyone can chill out a little now, all it takes is some patience!!! 🙏

It’s a shame that it had too be cancelled due too weather my son was going again this year and really looking forward too it as he was going with a group of friends and almost started his journey from south west wales . But the refund needs too speed up as I’ve phoned a good few times now and keep getting told In 2 days refund will be giving and still No money in my son account !!! The money must be making good Interest for someone !!!

Have any refunds gone out yet as I’m still waiting?

What about tickets purchased via Trainline instead of GWR?

Shall wee get the extra paid refunded if you couldn’t make the gig also !!!

But Cornwall Live still wants to know if you’re offering refunds... 😂

Nothing new?? Still no one knows how long they have to wait for refunds.

Thank you to everyone who’s reached out with messages of support. We want to share with you more details behind the decision to cancel Boardmasters 2019.

On Tuesday we received details of worsening weather, with 60mph (gale force 10) gusts of winds forecasted from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning. High winds are extremely dangerous at festivals. Temporary structures are simply not able to withstand sustained levels of high winds. Following consultation with our safety advisors and the local authorities, it was clear the risk was too severe and the show could not run.
We knew that some of you were already travelling. We knew that all of you would be upset and disappointed. We did everything we could, and explored all options to try and keep the festival running, but late on Tuesday evening the call was taken and we had no choice but to cancel. We couldn’t risk your safety. It was a devastating decision to make, with the festival built and looking amazing, and was not one we made lightly.
Thank you for your patience regarding ticket refunds. Please know, ticket refunds are a priority and we are working as quickly and as hard as we can to get these to you.
• Anyone who purchased tickets via the Boardmasters website and official ticket sellers will receive a refund in full for the face value of their ticket
• Ticket refunds will be automatically processed by our official sellers
• Big Green Coach are refunding coach tickets directly to customers and will be refunding the face value of festival tickets
• Unused GWR train tickets for Boardmasters can be refunded at point-of-purchase
• We will communicate further details as soon as possible via email, our social channels and boardmasters.com
It’s a very surreal feeling to be taking down a show that was set to be our best yet. A lot of incredible people put their heart and soul into Boardies 2019. From our fans to the artists and our site crew, our street team and ambassadors, our sponsors & partners, event managers, friends, advisors and everyone we know, love and work alongside - to our Boardmasters family - thank you.

Thank you for the detailed update. Appreciate that it couldn’t have been an easy decision and I’m sure some of the initial anger and upset would have moved to disappointment but understanding. Hope you make any improvements you needed to reduce the likelihood of severe weather for the future. This is a fabulous festival in a great location and is a massive draw for the region. Good luck

As an artist due to play this year I’m obviously gutted but completely respect the decision made to keep everyone safe. The opportunity to play alongside our biggest inspirations was up there as a dream come true for us, would you consider rebooking all the smaller-scale artists again next year Boardmasters?💜

Living in Newquay and driving to watergate at 7am on that Wednesday to walk my dog I really could have cried. The festival looked incredible, so much hard work, time, effort and money was put in. Certainly not an easy decision to make but as those storms came in it was absolutely the right decision. Yes, so many disappointed festival goers but my heart went out to the organisers and all businesses involved. Bring on 2020. 💪 xx

Thank you for putting your absolute all into putting this event together every single year. As much as it was disappointing to not be stomping around the fields this year, myself and many others completely understand why it couldn't go ahead. I have been going to the festival since 2009, and it will always have a special place in my heart as the first festival I ever went to back when I was 17! I really hope you're able to keep the event running, after what I am sure will be a great financial hit after having to cancel. I'm still dreaming of dancing around to Florence with some cider and a Cornish sunset in my favourite place in the world! So fingers crossed to getting that cracking line-up back for round two next year! All the best

After stopping whilst driving past the site yesterday, I agree it was absolutely the right decision. My son was devastated as his band were due to play their first festival, but safety has to come first xx

Thankyou for giving us a more detailed update , I know you are as upset as we all were / are ... but completely understand our safety must come first

I was devastated at the time as this is my favourite festival Right decision though and hope to be there in 2020

As a parent I’m so glad you decided to cancel this event , it’s sad but the right decision was made Thankyou xx

A great post and great that so many I’m agreement to offer refunds and hopefully with the line up you had for this year you won’t be put off for arranging next hear x

Really gutted for you all. We have salvaged a great few days away, after our initial disappointment. "A Festival On A Cliff"..... The most inspiring location festival goers can ask for and at the same time higher risk than other venues. I am devastated for you and all the businesses in the area that also lost out, in one of the most beautiful visitor locations in OUR United Kingdom. Can't wait to hear about 2020 plans and ticket availability. KEEP THE FAITH BOARDIES 😍!

The toughest decision to have had to make and heartbreaking for all that had put love, energy and time into planning but safety comes first! Hope to see #boardmasters in 2020 🙏🏼

Thank you totally understand your reasons and you have our support and we will totally be back next year love you guys xx

Looked amazing from staff camping, it must have been heartbreaking for you to put down something you've been building beautifully for 3 weeks. You've got a strong group of regular staff and public who can't wait to see it all again next year :)

We were devastated not to be there this year but totally understand your decision, everyone’s safety is the main priority for all involved, you were in a no win situation. We will be there next year, would be amazing if you could get at least some of the same acts as this year, but it’s always amazing whatever the line up. See you in a years time! Xx

Boardmasters I know I have been one of your harshest critics over the last few days, but it was only because I was absolutely gutted about one of the best UK festivals being cancelled and my first festival free summer since 1998. Hand on heart, the safety of everyone is paramount and the decision must have been agonising. A year is a long time to wait, but the wait will be worth it to spend 3 days on the cliffs in such a fantastic location again, hopefully with a handful of acts who would have made this weekend fantastic x

I’m glad I decided not to go this year, I would have been devastated as I missed Bastille because of Bertha a few years ago, but l do feel so awful for all involved missing out on what is an amazing festival, in the most stunning of settings !! Looking forward to your plans for 2020 ❤️🎪🏄🏼‍♀️🌊

I think the whole thing was handled wonderfully and I really don’t know what you could have done better or differently. Was a tough, but correct call. Well done Boardmasters crew x

So hugely gutted but after still traveled down and 100% understand decision,my favourite line up in years and already looking forward to next year, ignore the negative still my favourite festival 🤙

It was such a shame to see it all cancelled but completely understandable as to why... but me and my wife were one of the lucky ones and managed to end up staying until this Monday for the Boardmasters part of the surfing championships down at Fistral Bay. We still had a great time in that area over the past few days... And will definitely see to come in 2020! Much love

We were staying in St Austell but went to Padstow (via Newquay and Watergate Bay) the day after you announced it had been cancelled... We've always booked our summer holiday down Cornwall on the same weekend as Boardmasters. Seeing the blue tents and everything already built was a real shame knowing it had been cancelled... What's even more of a shame is some people complaining about it being cancelled... It's on a friggin cliff!!

Best decision. I love this festival and go most years. I remember Boardmasters 2014 when the Sunday had to be cancelled because of high winds from hurricane Bertha. No one wants their tent ripped down the middle and a massive umbrella fly at their head!

Well done, for keeping us informed. Sad decison for everyone involved, but here in Cornwall we understand decisions have to be made last minute and it was a tough call, but the right one. Keep communicating- it's the main thing people need.

We were so disappointed it was cancelled but it was the right decision, we live in Devon and the winds were strong and wouldn't have wanted my children camping in that . Looking forward to next year's and feel sorry for all the disappointment caused to u all.

Well done boardmasters. Initially I thought your actions were a little harsh , how wrong I was. My older kids and friends decided to camp in our garden and enjoy newquay but I was so worried I woke them all up and dragged there very hungover bodies inside. There would have been no way this would have been possible to protect these young adults had this gone ahead. Great decision.I hope the festival will go ahead next year. I’d happily prepay for next years event instead of a refund .....x

Very sincere post feel the pain for the crew and everyone who works at boardies! If history repeats itself like 5 years ago then next year will be a beauty for weather and make it amazing! Look forward to 2020 x
