On the Thursday (June 27) of this year’s Festival, there will be an Extinction Procession, giving you the chance to stand up and demand changes to the way we live as a society, so that we can avoid a climate catastrophe.

The event - which we have organised alongside the Green Fields, Greenpeace and Extinction Rebellion - will begin at 4pm at the Park Stage, where guest speakers will make a stand for our planet and the precious habitats that it hosts.

The procession will then make its way to the Sacred Space (aka the Stone Circle) in the King's Meadow within the Green Fields, where we plan to create the largest ever human sculpture of an hourglass – symbolising extinction – at 5.30pm.

One of the many reasons I love this festival

What a wonderful idea, but let's hope this year the Glastonbury visitors take home their tents, chairs, wellies, recycling and single use plastics! There seems to be a strange irony here unless this year there is a sea change!

But happy to have 5g tested at the festival even though there are health concerns for humans as well as bees and other insects??

Now here's a crazy idea in terms of taking a stand for changes in the way we treat the environment - how about you force everyone to take their tents and chairs home, and prohibit the use of single use plastic during the festival? Now THAT is rock'n'roll! 🤘✊

A dairy farm holding an extinction procession 😂😂😂

But the rubbish and tents and other stuff left behind as well as all the electricity etc used at the festival is hardly great for the environment. Hopefully no single use plastics available there!

Why don’t you do a mass litter pick every day at a certain time, wouldn’t that be more beneficial? X

Make sure you take your rubbish home with you and recycle every bit you can. That’s more important than joining the procession.

Gotta love those that would not go to glasto, but love commenting negative, immature comments on anything glasto related 😂 well done Glastonbury. It's working.

I know its on a,much bigger scale but shouldnt matter, they should take a,leaf out of shindigs,site...very impressive after pics, with clean feilds

Take your tent home and don’t leave your campsite in a state. That’s a good start

Glastonbury used to be for the music & having a good time but lost its way since all this polictal BS has infected it. Glad I had my days there when I did.

Just hope everyone takes their tents home and not leave them for trash 🙄

Why don’t you hold it on the Monday after the festival, A) folk wont have to see the tripe and b) you can doing something meaningful and litter pick

Bet they all Leave a giant hourglass shaped pile of rubbish

I've stopped reading all the negative comments. My boys are 14 & 9 and will most definatley be there to take part in this procession. Everyone blabbing about how bad this idea, should do something more productive and stop spoiling the opportunity for people who are young and care and want to make a stand. Anyone that suggests Micheal and Emily don't care about our planet and its future are vile.. I'll walk away now..

Hmmm.... 🤔 5.30pm, we’re probs going to be working?

Every one of us signs a pledge to leave no trace. If you stay by one of the big stages after the headline act has finished it's a sea of cans, plastic cups, food waste etc unfortunately this is impossible to police because of the size of the crowds throughout the day. The only thing we can hope for is people use their common sense and take their rubbish with them and dispose of it responsibly.

Will Emma Thompson be flying over via BA first class to attend the festival?

I’ll be joining you after my shift for FMS at park. Finishes at 4

1) are you stopping all fossil fueled cars on site this year? 2) there should be no litter to pick as everyone should respect the fields 3) is the electricity for the site powered solely by renewable sources?

If we can make it into a conga line with David Attenborough at the lead I could definitely (possibly) be swayed!

You wouldn't leave your home and garden in a mess, why should you anywhere else, take it home!

Thanks for warning - supposed to be raining then btw

walking in protest eh? What a waste of time. Have you seen the bloody mess left behind. Not everyone but a vast majority don't give a toss. My opinion because I help clean up.

  1. You should get in contact with BYE camping they are at the electric picnic, all them a chunk of your campsite to show people what can be done when like minded people camp together, the place was spotless the whole time and we sorted out own rubbish. Rest of the site was a warzone but they are being given more and more space.

  2. Washing facilities in the kidz field for reusable nappies/wipes? NCT tent having reusable wipes out rather than disposable ones? Making stall space available for groups of reusable sanitary product makers to work together to show people what the options are/help make them more mainstream?
