NME Festival blog: Watch Lorde cover Carly Rae Jepsen with Jack Antonoff
The New Zealand star performed with the Bleachers musician during the Ally Coalition Talent Show last night (January 24)
The New Zealand artist performed the song during the fourth annual Ally Coalition charity event, which was hosted by Antonoff and his sister Rachel. The event is held to raise money for at-risk LGBTQ youth and to combat homelessness.
During her four-song set, Lorde sat down with Antonoff at a piano to perform Jepsen’s ‘Run Away With Me’, which featured on her 2015 album ‘Emotion’. The cover featured alongside a rendition of Roy Orbison‘s ‘You Got It’ in the small setlist, which also saw performances of the ‘Melodrama’ tracks ‘Green Light’ and ‘Writer In The Dark’.

As reported by Billboard, Lorde was heckled after the performance of ‘Run Away With Me’ by one audience member who yelled “In Israel, they’re nice too!” after Lorde remarked how nice the crowd had been.
The remark from the audience member was made in reference to Lorde’s controversial decision to cancel a recent show in Israel. Antonoff reportedly reacted angrily to the heckle, with Billboard reporting that he had to be calmed down by Lorde on stage as he shouted back: “No, no – we’ve raised a shit-ton of money tonight. Fuck that negativity.”
Antonoff’s defence of Lorde was met by a round of applause, before Lorde then “eventually promised that she loved the people of Israel and expected to perform for them someday,” according to Billboard.
