NME Festival blog: ‘Teen Mom 2’ star arrested after meth lab discovered
Former Teen Mom 2 star Kieffer Delp has been arrested after the discovery of a methamphetamine lab.
Police in Pittsburgh charged 28-year-old Delp on Wednesday with manufacturing and distribution of methamphetamines and the improper disposal of chemicals in the basement of his apartment in McKees Rocks, The Pittsburgh-Post Gazette reports.
Delp appeared on the second incarnation of MTV reality show Teen Mom as the on-off partner of young mother Jenelle Eason (later Jenelle Evans).
As depicted on the show, the couple had a tumultuous relationship before their break-up.
Jenelle had previously appeared on the second season of the same channel’s 16 And Pregnant
While Teen Mom 2 has run for eight seasons from 2011 to the present day, Delp only featured from 2011 to 2013.
He has been held on felony charges and must stay at Allegheny County Jail after he was unable to pay bail of $50,000 (£36,450).
He will appear in court for a preliminary hearing on January 23.
Police had apparently been investigating the apartment for several weeks after being tipped off by members of the public.
They evacuated the whole building before removing a number of chemicals reportedly found in the basement.
These are said to have included empty packaging for pseudo-ephedrine as well as ammonium nitrate, lithium, lighter fluid and propane.
McKees Rocks Police Chief Richard Deliman said: “Obviously with all these chemicals together and during the process of making this, it could ultimately explode, which is why we evacuated the building while the product was being removed.”
Delp’s ex Evans married her partner David Eason at their home in North Carolina in September last year, with her three children present.
“David is such a humble man and has never disrespected me. He can handle me so well,” she told E! News.
“He treats my boys as if they were his own and that’s all I ever wanted for me and my family.”
