Spiritualized have announced details of their first album in six years, ‘And Nothing Hurt’.
Jason Pierce’s space-rock band last released a record in 2012 with ‘Sweet Heart Sweet Light‘. In a review, NME said: “This record is, as you’d expect, by turns breathtaking, entrancing, deafening and challenging, and Spiritualized are still the Vatican of artists. But the thing with monuments: you admire their intrinsic magnificence, but you need a damn good reason to go back a seventh time.”
After teasing new music via clips of Morse code, Spiritualized shared the first track from ‘And Nothing Hurt’ today. ‘I’m Your Man’ was premiered on Lauren Laverne’s BBC 6Music show earlier today (June 11). A second new track, ‘A Perfect Miracle’, has also been shared online since. You can listen to both below.

‘And Nothing Hurt’ was recorded by Pierce alone in his London home. In a press release, he said: “Making this record on my own sent me more mad than anything I’ve done before. We’d been playing these big shows and I really wanted to capture that sound we were making but, without the funds to do, I had to find a way to work within the constraints of what money I had. So I bought a laptop and made it all in a little room in my house.”
The track listing for ‘And Nothing Hurt’, which will be released on September 7, is as follows:
‘A Perfect Miracle’
‘I’m Your Man’
‘Here It Comes (The Road) Let’s Go’
‘On The Sunshine’
‘The Morning After’
‘Sail On Through’
Pierce previously said a new Spiritualized album would be released in 2017 and it would be his last. “I’m a lot older now and, in a weird way, I think it’s my last record,” he told the Independent. “I’ve covered so much ground and already done a load of ideas. There’s no point doing something unless it’s better than that.”
