NME Festival blog: Rizzle Kicks and Yasmin Evans back new blood donation campaign
Rizzle Kicks’ Jordan Stephens, Capital Xtra’s Remel London and Radio 1Xtra’s Yasmin Evans have joined forces for a new campaign to highlight the importance of giving blood.
The #Date2Donate campaign sees a series of famous faces enjoying a wide ranging chat on the merits of fame – which takes place as they donate blood at an NHS clinic.
In the first clip, which has been exclusively premiered by NME, Jordan Stephens is seen kicking back with Yasmin Evans and Capital 1Xtra’s Remel London.
“My last job was in a fast food kitchen at a greyhound stadium”, Stephen reveals as he discusses his rise to fame with Rizzle Kicks.
“My boss didn’t like me and I literally went up to him and went ‘so I’m quitting’ and he went ‘why’ and I was like ‘I got a record deal’…I’ve never spoken to him since.”
But the chat also takes a serious side, with Evans discussing how a blood tranfusion proved integral in saving a friend’s life.
“A friend of mine had a blood tranfusion so she can’t give blood. It’s something she feels so passionate about because she would have lost her life if someone hadn’t given blood”, she said.
Speaking after the session, Stephens says: “As much fun as I make out of it, it actually is good to contribute to saving lives.”
Along with the latest video, the campaign has also bagged the support of other notable names including former Popworld host Miquita Oliver and rapper Cadet, who will feature in similar videos over the coming weeks.
Nadine Eaton from NHS Blood and Transplant said: “We are asking young people to make blood donation part of their regular routine, something that they have reoccurring in their diaries. Save a life by going about yours. Make a regular Date2Donate in 2018.”
“Less than a quarter (23.7%) of those who gave blood last year were youngerthan 30 years old, so we particularly hope these videos appeal to this age group. Giving blood only takes about an hour but can save three lives.”
