Netflix has revealed the release date for Ricky Gervais’ After Life, a new series that sees him tackling the darkly comic side of grief.
New photos from the series emerged online yesterday (January 14), alongside confirmation that it’ll arrive on Friday March 8.
The new offering from the comedy icon sees him being joined by a cast of top British comic talent in which he stars as Tony, who has been destroyed by the death of his wife.
He’s a widower who is hell-bent on punishing the rest of the world in response to his wife’s death. But Tony’s callous efforts are constantly thwarted by the constant kindness of his close friends – helping him to realise that they’re slowly transforming him into a better person.
Or as Netflix puts it, Tony is “trying to punish the world one savage put-down at a time.”
He’ll reunite with Extras co-star Ashley Jensen for the new series, alongside a line-up of talent that includes Derek‘s Kerry Godliman, Harry Potter star David Bradley, and Philomena Cunk actress Diane Morgan.
Describing the show in 2017, Gervais told The Hollywood Reporter: “The idea is I get separated from my wife, and I have to move in with an absolute loser relative.
“I’ve lost everything. I haven’t got a house, I haven’t got a job because I was a bit of a kept man, and now I have to start dating again. It’s horrendous.”
