A previously unreleased recording of a Nirvana acoustic gig from 1991 has been discovered and shared online.
According to the person who uploaded the recording, the pair were billed as Very Special Guests at a fundraising event at the venue alongside local band Joyriders. The gig raised more for the city’s Sick Kids Hospital.
Cobain and Grohl are said to have performed a five song set, two-and-a-half of which are captured in the recording – ‘Dumb’, ‘Polly’, and part of ‘Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam’. At the start of the recording you can hear Cobain joking with the audience.
The @livenirvana Twitter page tweeted about the audio, writing: “We’ve been actively trying to track down a recording for probably 15 years. We thought one didn’t exist. It does. Thanks to all involved.”
You can listen to the recording above, via Spin.
Meanwhile, it was reported earlier this year that Cobain’s daughter Frances Bean and wife Courtney Love were in the midst of a legal battle against the release of photos of his body following his death.
The Blast claim to have come across official court documents detailing Cobain’s widow and daughter’s battle to prevent journalist and conspiracy theorist Richard Lee’s attempts to have police photos from the scene of the singer’s death released to the public. Said images portray Kurt’s body “as it lay in the family residence after he was shot in the head.”
