NME Festival blog: Grimes is legally changing her name, and Elon Musk says it ‘actually rox’

Grimes has revealed that she’ll be legally changing her name to ‘c‘, denoting the speed of light.

Having made headlines recently attending the Met Gala with new partner, SpaceX CEO/Tesla co-founder Elon Musk, now Grimes has revealed that she’ll be legally changing her name from Claire to c, having wanted to for as long as she can remember. She told her fans and followers that this would be ‘much better’ for her.

Asked if the decision was influenced at all by the space-loving tech mogul Musk, Grimes replied: “Well he’s the one who pointed out that my working nickname (c) actually rox and I don’t need to look further.

“I’ve been trying to change name forever but couldn’t find good one, but my friends call me c.”

She continued: “Claire has been the bane of my existence since I became sentient. I can barely say it with my speech impediment, although c is technically worse for the lisp.”

As well as collaborating with Janelle Monae on ‘PYNK‘ from her acclaimed new album ‘Dirty Computer‘, Grimes has also teased new music made with Youtube sensation Poppy.

She also claims to have a “deep well of shit” when it comes to new material of her own.

Earlier this month, Grimes shared the potential tracklist for her new album but stressed that it was ‘subject to change’.

The titles included ‘thats what the drugs r 4’, ‘Darq Souls’, ‘blaze forever like a useless star’, ‘Favourite Pyscho’, ‘Nymphs At Versailles’.
