The collaborative movie was released last night (April 12)
The pair put out the film last night (April 12), half an hour into the Gambino’s – aka Donald Glover – headline set at Coachella.
According to an IMDB.com synopsis, the film is “a tropical thriller that casts Donald Glover as a musician with designs on pulling off a scheme to rob his way into the good life, which quickly gets him in over his head.”
Fans have taken to social media to share their opinions on the movie. “Tha flavor, the music, the colors, Donald Glover, RIHANNA,” wrote one person. “Everything about #GuavaIsland is exquisit.”
Another added: “#GuavaIsland was like an extended music video for all the songs Childish Gambino drooped last summer.”
One person pointed out the work of director Hiro Murai, who has worked with Glover previously on Atlanta and the video for ‘This Is America’. “We’re going to eventually need to talk about how good every part of GUAVA ISLAND is but for now I want to ignore Donald and Rihanna and talk about how every shot Hiro Murai ever puts to film is mESMERIZING.”
Some viewers were not happy that Rihanna does not sing in Guava Island. “How was there a whole ass movie with a musical focus and @RIHANNA in it but not one song from the queen??!?” Asked one. “We need that fenty music sis #GuavaIsland.”
