NME Festival blog: Ellen Page announces that she’s married
Ellen Page has announced that she has married her girlfriend Emma Portner.
Juno star Page, who came out as gay in 2014, took to Instagram to confirm the news, writing: “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife”.
Portner – a professional dancer – wrote in her own post: “I get to call this incredible woman MY WIFE!”. Scroll below to see those posts.
Page revealed that she was dating Portner last year. In 2015, Portner appeared in Justin Bieber’s ‘Life Is Worth Living’ video.
Last year, Page was filmed debating with a homophobic preacher at an anti-Trump protest.
Page came out at the Human Rights Campaign’s Time to Thrive conference in 2014, saying in her speech: “I’m here today because I am gay and because maybe I can make a difference, to help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility.”
“I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission,” she continued. “I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. And I’m standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain.”
