NME Festival blog: Donald Trump invites Kanye West, Mike Tyson and more to White House for race discussion

Trump has reportedly invited Kanye West, Mike Tyson, former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick and more to the White House for a race summit.

Pastor Darrell Scott and spiritual advisor to President Trump is said to be organising the event that aims to gather a range of athletes and musical artists at the White House for a discussion about race.

Scott told People that he spent about 20 minutes with the President at the Oval Office and Trump is “100%” for the race summit. “He was very enthusiastic about it,” Scott added.

The Pastor also said that it won’t “be a black-only event,” stating that it will be more of “a melting pot.”

Yesterday (May 4), Trump thanked Kanye West for boosting his African-American approval rating.

Speaking at a National Rifle Association convention in Dallas, Trump said “Kanye West must have some power because, you probably saw, I doubled my African-American poll numbers. We went from 11% to 22% in one week.”

“Thank you, Kanye, thank you,” Trump added. “Even the pollsters thought there must be some mistake. No, we’ve come a long way.”

The comment was referencing a recent Reuters poll, which stated his approval rating among black men was 22%. His disapproval rating among the same demographic is 71%.

After returning to Twitter after a hiatus, West wrote that he “loves” Donald Trump and later posted photos of himself in one of Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again hats. He later backtracked, saying he doesn’t like “half the shit” Trump says. He explained what he actually likes about Trump in his recent interview with Charlamagne.
