NME Festival blog: Diddy and Colin Kaepernick want to buy NFL team Carolina Panthers

Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs has expressed an intent to buy NFL team Carolina Panthers, with ostracised star Colin Kaepernick also “wanting in” on the deal.

The Panthers franchise has been put up for sale by its owner Jerry Richardson, who faces an NFL investigation and allegations of misconduct in the workplace.

Responding to the news, Diddy tweeted: “I would like to buy the @Panthers. Spread the word. Retweet!”. He added: “There are no majority African American NFL owners. Let’s make history.”

The rapper and entrepreneur, who is valued at $820million, later tweeted: “This is God’s work. It’s time!! ATTN all @NFL owners, it’s time for diversity!! It’s time for Black ownership!! The time is now. Let’s make it happen!!”.

Kaepernick, currently a free agent, is known for spearheading the kneeling protest, which has seen athletes protesting against police brutality the treatment of African-Americans in the US.

He tweeted in responds to Diddy’s post: “I want in on the ownership group! Let’s make it happen!”.

Basketball player Steph Curry has also backed the plan, tweeting simply: “I want in!”

Diddy later replied to Curry’s tweet by firing back: “Holla at me, let’s get it!”. See those tweets in full below.

Carolina Panthers are currently 10-4 this seasons. They beat the Green Bay Packers 31-24 on Sunday.
